"Gravity" Tops Box Office Again, "Escape Plan" and "Fifth Estate" Bomb

"Gravity" Tops Box Office Again, "Escape Plan" and "Fifth Estate" BombSubmit Comment
Despite three new wide releases, "Gravity" still managed to take first place at the domestic box office for the third weekend in a row. The $100 million film earned another $31 million for a new worldwide total of $285 million.

"Carrie" remake took third place with $17 million, slightly lower than the $20 million Sony was expecting. The new movie cost $30 million to make, which means it will easily become profitable, but will likely not become the kind of hit the studio was hoping for. "Carrie" has a 50% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes.

Coming in fifth place was "Escape Plan," starring Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Even though this is the first time the two action stars took leading roles in the same film, "Escape Plan" only managed to bring in $9.8 million, which is a huge blow for Schwarzenegger's attempt to resurrect his acting career.

"Escape Plan" grossed another $14.1 million internationally, but will likely struggle to make back its $70 million budget. The film has a 45% fresh rating.

The other wide release, Benedict Cumberbatch's WikiLeaks movie "The Fifth Estate," landed in eighth place with only $1.7 million, setting a 2013 record for the worst opening in more than 1,500 theaters.

DreamWorks always knew that the film would heavily rely on international markets to break even. Unfortunately, "The Fifth Estate" only managed to earn $1.6 million overseas for a worldwide debut of $3.3 million. That's far from the $28 million it cost to make. The new movie has a 39% fresh rating.

Meanwhile, "12 Years a Slave" was released in 19 theaters, grossing $960,000. That's a whopping $50,526 per theater, one of the best performances of the year. "12 Years a Slave" has a 95% fresh rating and is considered a strong Oscar contender.

Another Stallone and Sly sh*tfest bombs. Wonder when these two old geezers are going to get the hint most people don't even remember them, much less care to see two fat old f*cks rattle their cracked hips for ninety minutes?

This place got boring as f*ck and people decided to rearrange their underwear drawer instead of posting here, that's what happened.

RIP Rambo/Crambo.

Just got back from Escape Plan. Surprisingly a lot better than expected. It actually felt like your genuine 90s soul-poured action flick. There was clearly some effort put in making this movie, so yeah, I would definately check this movie out. Plus, you get Dr. Alan Grant playing a doctor. There's that bonus.

And Arnold makes some new funnies and babbles in German for the first time on screen.

''Escape Plan'' was entertaining as hell.
Everybody was cracking up several times during the movie and actually applauded when it ended.

Looking forward to Escape plan, great that Arnie & Stallone are finally in a film together, don't mind that they're now old c*nts as works for their roles in the movie.

What's amazing is Arnuld spent more time rattling off old quotes on Reddit then he did promoting the film.

Escape Plan was solid and enjoyable but I saw no commercials for it on TV this entire month. It was weird and i'm sure it had to do with it bombing. Also The Tomb was a much better title, Escape Plan is so generic that it sounds like a fake movie.

I loved escape plan. missed those 80's/90's action movies. I don't think its been marketed well. Especially in the UK. Probably doesn't help that Arnie and Sly are off making expend 3 and maggie. They're relying on their names to sell the movie and thats not working for them anymore.
