Sylvester Stallone Says He Hated Arnold Schwarzenegger for Twenty Years

Sylvester Stallone Says He Hated Arnold Schwarzenegger for Twenty YearsSubmit Comment
Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger were the biggest action stars of their time. But the two actors refused to work together, something that seems strange now considering they've made three "Expendables" films and "Escape Plan" in just the last few years.

Speaking on the red carpet of the premiere of "Escape Plan," Stallone spoke about how he and Schwarzenegger used to fight for certain roles, which created animosity between them.

"[We] really disliked each other intensely for 20 years," he admitted. "It goes to show you, a good enemy is hard to find. Eventually you sort of appreciate [them]. Maybe the reason we were so competitive was it made us get to where we are."

Some enemies make the best of friends. The competition between these two gave us years of action classics.

Planet Hollywood for life, bitches!

@alleyg21: you sure you don't have that turned around? I'm pretty sure none of Arnold's performances were nominated for Oscars.

So, they have grown up now, huh? Well, I guess I must be too old to be reading this because it's old news, dead and buried a long time ago.

@alleyg12
Arnie wasn't cast for his acting.
And Stallone was the better actor. Look no further than First Blood.

@Pornfly: Arnold married for class, Sly banged for fun. Two different approaches with two different intents. I'd say they both won, but Arnold would have the upper hand if he hadn't stuck his bratwurst in the maid's punschkrapfen.

As for the news...not surprising. Two top tier competitors fighting over the same meal, like two hungry battle cats going after the same hunk of meat, although I'm hard-pressed to agree with the idea they actually "hated" one another, a word which in general seems to negate any mutual respect, which I'm sure existed between Arnold and Sly during most, if not all, of their rivalry.

Oh well. Not like I come here for the objectivity or balance or truth or...basically the FOX News of movie news sites.

Umm...NO.

Arnie cannot act at all. At least Stallone had some good attempts.

Arnold cannot act?! Then that must have been James Stewart in Junior.

I really never saw the animosity, on the contrary. They used to take playful jabs at each other in the movies comparing muscles....I always thought that was cool of them.

As why they never worked together? Meh...I really don't buy it. I think it was just business...if they share roles, they have to share the check. Just stay with your own projects, call the shots, and get paid f*ckIN' MILLIONS!! Sounds like business to me...

As for the acting, I think they both have improved over the decades. Stallone played Stallone, but so f*cking what? Denzel plays Denzel, Jackson plays Jackson & Whalberg always plays Whalberg...nothing new there. But hey, at least he took risks, all the greats do with some mixed results. The ToyMaker from Spy Kids was.... what's the word?...oh, yeah...HOLY sh*t!! I really winced at his scenes, but don't f*cking forget him in Copland. There HE. f*ckING. OWNED! Upstaging De Niro, Keitel, Liotta was no easy feat going method...c'mon.

As for Ahnuld, at first his acting was atrocious. He basically got roles on his charisma only. But he got better and risked as well when he thought he had it down, IMO. Some good results...Twins, Kindergarten Cop, Jingle All the Way, with End of Days really pulling the stops with minimal use of action...it was all him. At the end, he wanted the money, for his other endeavors (I still think he really wanted the Presidency), but you could see he came a long way culminating with that Collateral/ Firefighter movie. Of course, the everyman angle didn't quite get pulled off, but solid effort nonetheless.

At the end, they just got together because the 2 of them, and ONLY THEM can really understand each other. They were part of the best blockbusters defining a decade/ genre, made major bank, had tumultuous falls from grace, and at the end, both of them survived just enough to have to start from the bottom up...

I think with everything happening to them and compare them with these fake, playboy action leads...they are really 2 of a kind.
