Anthony Hopkins Writes Gushing Fan Letter to "Breaking Bad" Star Bryan Cranston, Calls Him a Great Actor

Anthony Hopkins Writes Gushing Fan Letter to "Breaking Bad" Star Bryan Cranston, Calls Him a Great ActorSubmit Comment
"Breaking Bad" was watched by millions of loyal fans, with many calling the TV series one of the greatest of all time. But now, over two weeks after the last episode aired, Bryan Cranston received an unexpected fan letter from Oscar-winning actor Anthony Hopkins. Read the letter below:

"Dear Mister Cranston,

I've just finished a marathon of watching 'BREAKING BAD' – from episode one of the First Season – to the last eight episodes of the Sixth Season. A total of two weeks (addictive) viewing. I have never watched anything like it. Brilliant! Your performance as Walter White was the best acting I have seen – ever.

I know there is so much smoke blowing and sickening bullsh*t in this business, and I've sort of lost belief in anything really. But this work of yours is spectacular – absolutely stunning. What is extraordinary, is the sheer power of everyone in the entire production. What was it? Five or six years in the making? How the producers (yourself being one of them), the writers, directors, cinematographers... every department – casting etc... managed to keep the discipline and control from beginning to the end is awesome.

From what started as a black comedy, descended into a labyrinth of blood, destruction and hell. It was like a great Jacobean, Shakespearian or Greek Tragedy.

If you ever get a chance to – would you pass on my admiration to everyone – Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, Aaron Paul, Betsy Brandt, RJ Mitte, Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks, Steven Michael Quezada – everyone – everyone gave master classes of performance... The list is endless.

Thank you. That kind of work/artistry is rare, and when, once in a while, it occurs, as in this epic work, it restores confidence. You and all the cast are the best actors I've ever seen. That may sound like a good lung full of smoke blowing. But it is not. It's almost midnight out here in Malibu, and I felt compelled to write this email.

Congratulations and my deepest respect. You are truly a great, great actor.

Best regards,
Tony Hopkins
"

What a fantastic humble letter from one great actor to another. Sir Hopkins is absolutely right in everything he says.

It just shows what a fantastic show it was!

DP once wrote a similarly "gushing" letter of praise to the cast of Queer as Folk.

It was PS'ed: Please ignore the yellow stains.

To cut a long email short: Most entertainment now days is garbage, this is not. Well done.

First time around I got to see ´Malcolm in the middle´ I immediately saw this actors worth and I thought to myself : ´This is one talented dude´ !
Then he starred in Breaking Bad and...OMG !!!

One of my favorite and funniest parts of Malcolm In The Middle is when Cranston asks Malcolm to come in the kitchen because he needs to talk to him about some incident at school or something.

Of course Cranston is in his white t-shirt and tighty-whities and he's heating up a piece of pizza in the microwave.

So he's talking to Malcolm about school and when the microwave beeps he takes the pizza out and IMMEDIATELY bites into it and then wails "HOT CHEESE! HOT CHEESE!" and drops the pizza on the floor.

Malcolm just shakes his head and goes back to bed and Cranston is mumbling "Wait Son, we aren't done yet!"

It's a great scene and it just shows how versatile and talented Cranston really is because he plays it flawlessly and we can all relate to that.

and that why I love Hopkins.

However, to keep thing in perspective, Hopkins also sent a gushing fan-letter to Duck Dynasty.

So, yeah, there's that.

Lol, much respect for this man. Glad he wrote this letter. Very classy act on his part.

It definitely takes a lot to be this humble because really Hopkins knows how f*cking brilliant of an actor he himself is. The man has conquered every genre in some form or another and even manages to add real power to his role as Odin in Thor. So when he says he sees a great actor everyone definitely should, at this point, turn and just go, "Yes sir." LOL

Takes greatness to see greatness....

f*ck awards....nowadays anyways. Where any recognition can be bought or manipulated, the high praise from an established and well respected actor that understands how fake and "smoke-blowing" Hollywood is beats it all.

Hopkins is all class...

And Boogiel is right, he should f*cking frame that letter. That's better than a f*cking plaque, IMO.
