"Breaking Bad" Creators Offered $75 Million for Three More Episodes

"Breaking Bad" Creators Offered $75 Million for Three More EpisodesSubmit Comment
In a new interview with Variety, producer Jeffrey Katzenberg revealed that he offered $75 million to the creators of "Breaking Bad" for just three more episodes of the TV series. This took place before the last episodes were written.

"I had this crazy idea. I was nuts for the show. I had no idea where this season was going," said Katzenberg. "The last series cost about $3.5 million an episode. So they would make more profit from these three shows than they made from five years of the entire series. I said [to them], 'I'm going to create the greatest pay-per-view television event for scripted programming anybody's ever done.'"

The plan was to take each of the three one-hour-long episodes (180 minutes) and release six minutes online each day for thirty days. Fans would have to pay one dollar per six-minute segment.

We know that 10 million people watched the finale of "Breaking Bad." If each person paid one dollar and watched all thirty segments, that would earn Katzenberg $300 million. But in reality, only a small fraction of people would actually be willing to pay. Then Katzenberg would have to also pay the cast and do some costly marketing. Many believe that this would not have turned out profitable.

Question: Would you pay $1 for six-minute segments of the last three episodes of "Breaking Bad"?

I again tried watching season one of this show, only to delete the entire season off my hard drive, so 75 million for three more episodes sounds like paying a fortune for a stay at Guantanamo.

Stupid idea. Someone would find a way to rip it and upload it for free for everyone. This guy sounds greedy

Is this the same guy who decided to break of up season 5 of Breaking Bad on Amazon so that if you bought episodes 1-8 you didn't also receive episodes 9-16?

Yeah, that was pretty f*cking greedy.

No. And that is the stupidest idea ever, meaning that only complete idiots would pay a buck per installment. Breaking Bad was a decent enough show with two and a half good seasons. The story is done, with a ballless ending, let it lay dead.

What a greedy d*ck. 1$ for 6 minutes? Kiss my ass. But I still think Mink should push through!! Haha

The sh*t's gone, Tanmanimus Prime.

After I saw that ending scene wherein Cranston f*cks his wife from behind in their bed, I deleted the entire thing.

Right after I puked, that is.

Hell naw! It's a good finale. Those writers should walk away, if they still have some dignity left.

It died happy and with a closing ending, let the damn show sleep! It made the money it wasnt suppose to and got AMC even more profit.

Breaking bad or bust! Lol It really picks up after season 1 but kinda goes down around season 4 just to be brought right back up for season 5 lol season 5 is probably its best.

Minkydoodle is crazy :)

The concept of pay per view is fine but not for a mere 6 min! For 20 min at least but in this case it's way too late.

I bet you Aaron Paul is saying: "Couldn't you saying it like 6 months ago, you slow ass BITCH!"

i still thik this is not the last of it ...it makes too much money ...i personally didnt like the ending...prob of been better if it was 2 hours long instead of it been 55mins
Cinemaisdead writes:

The ending was satisfactory, giving the fans what they wanted it wasn't an amazing ending at all. The show itself is well written and filmed but definitely not one of the greatest it just feels good because most stuff on TV is sh*t in comparison.

This show is overrated. Not to sound like a pretentious hipster, but it's just a show about an ego trip. Except the writers tell you/ force you to hate its main character, which really doesn't work in the long run. No one wants to watch 62 hours of an *sshole.
So to tell us to hate him only for me to accept his actions still of some small good virtue doesn't work. It's the same thing with Sopranos, except that show knew we had this love hate thing for Tony. And the ending wasn't fan service like BrBa. Sopranos ended perfectly, Breaking Bad tried to hard to please fans and give Walt some redemption, which is what the creators avoided.
