Tom Hanks' "The Money Pit" to Become TV Series

NBC has announced that it's developing a new comedy TV series based on the 1986 movie "The Money Pit," which starred Tom Hanks and Shelley Long. Justin Spitzer ("The Office") is writing the script.

The plot will stay close to the original, which focused on Walter (Hanks) and Anna (Long) as they purchase a mansion that begins to fall apart and in the process, destroys their relationship.

No word if any of the original cast and crew, like Hanks, Long, producer Steven Spielberg or director Richard Benjamin, will be involved.

All you have to do these days is take an existing movie and pitch as a tv series.

Castaway to become a TV series.

Catch Me If You Can to become a TV series.

And so on and so forth. Easy. And at least my ideas could work. I could actually see a television series built around a guy lost on a deserted island. Think Survivor meets Gilligan's Island. Or a long-running quest to catch a wanted man. Think The Fugitive + ...The Fugitive.

But these ideas, including the one above, just suck.

Shelley Long will probably get hired to play the 'wacky grandma' because she's older than 40 and that's a thing that exists on all sitcoms now.
