Arnold Schwarzenegger's "The Legend of Conan" is Moving Forward

Even though there have been talks of Arnold Schwarzenegger not returning for "Terminator 5," it seems that Universal Pictures is very interested in re-teaming with the actor for "The Legend of Conan."

According to Deadline, the studio has signed Andrea Berloff (World Trade Center) to write the script. Producer Chris Morgan said that Berloff is "an amazing writer who can juggle masculine grittiness with extreme emotional depth. Her take on Conan is powerful and genuine and would make Robert E. Howard proud."

Morgan previously spoke about the story, stating: "[Conan is] not going out and fighting battles, but he ends up getting drawn into something and he has to access the barbarian he was in his youth. I want the warrior whose joints have started to fuse together, who has to crack the cartilage so he can pick up a sword again. I want the guy who's not necessarily lost a step, but there's some rust he has to shake off. I want to embrace that. It makes it a greater hero story."

Awesome news, if I had seen and liked the first two, which were, from all indications, very poorly acted.

About 15 years too late.

Not sure if any of you have seen this...

“Wonder Woman fan short film by Rainfall Films. This is the production company behind The Punisher: Dirty Laundry and Venom: Truth in Journalism. Now director Sam Balcomb and starring Rileah Vanderbilt comes a brand new short film showcasing Wonder Woman herself against armed thugs in the streets on New York and battling evil monsters on the shores of Themyscira”

Very decent for a fan made film – although heavy on 300 influence.

Keeping on subject, Sandahl Bergman was smokin hot in original Conan.

Not take away from Howard, but it's high time Lovecraft get a decent adaptation.

I think Michael J. Bassett should direct this Conan film...he really brought it in Salomon Kane.

Although the plot/ dialogue was somewhat lacking, it really made it up in look and action. James Purefoy stole every scene...and to give you an idea of how old the movie is...Pete Postlethwaite acted in it.

Just saying Purefoy ain't getting any younger...

If someone would really make a hard, edge Conan screenplay, Bassett would knock it out of the park, IMO.

BTW, whatever happened to the Salomon Kane sequel anyway? You'd think there would already be one out with the first as the calling card.

I just hope they don't make it corny. I can't wait for this doh.

the entire movie should just be Conan getting drunk and punching camels in the face

I have little to no hope/interest in this whatsoever. The 1982 original was a sorta one-time stroke of genius -- the best Conan film you can make that drifts from REH’s source material -- mostly because John Milius brought his own, similar, nutty macho-individualism to the table in a very lyrical, cinematic way, and because Arnold in his prime, despite lack of thespian talent, was such a force of on-screen charisma that almost perfectly translated the titular character. The sequel along with Red Sonja are lesser films but still goofy 80s fantasy fun in their own way.

I’m as happy as the next 80s kid to see Arnold returning to action movies but, in this particular case, it’s more of a problem. Because of him they’re going to try and re-tap the 82 film and that’s just not gonna work. First of all, a woman writing a Conan story? No. f*ck no.

What REH created was inherently masculine, loner-antiheroism “guy stuff” down to it’s very core; in essence, Man Poetry. Regardless, why not just scrap any previous film versions and adapt his short stories as they are into a vignette-style feature film? Conan is not high-fantasy, epic storytelling like LOTR, but episodic hard narrative pulp adventures.

What they’re talking about doing is still too conventional in trying to make a single life-story Conan film, and that’s just not the character or the true nature of the storytelling at its best.

^^That's not what Chris Morgan says. He says whatshername will juggle masculinity with emotional depth.

You know you're going to love it when Arnie breaks into crying jags when his son Conan Jr. pops his sword cherry.

But hey, it could be worse. Diablo Cody could be writing the screenplay.

I would prefer to see a movie adapting The Carnacki stories written by William Hope Hodgson, you bet on that,

that´s where John Constantine came from, let me tell you.

YEs, only the first Conan was good, besides that, in any other incarnation they just f*cked it up, very much.
