According to IESB, Alexandre Aja will direct a remake of "Piranha." The original movie was directed by legendary master of horror Joe Dante back in 1978 and was a spoof of Spielberg's 1975 hit, "Jaws."
Dimension Films is expected to release more information on the upcoming remake within the next few days and give details in regards to which direction the new film will take.
Alexandre Aja's breakout hit was the French Horror film "High Tension" and he quickly followed up with the highly successful remake of Wes Craven's "The Hills Have Eyes."
Back in 1978, Universal Studios tried to stop the film from being released (because of its satirizing of Universal's "Jaws" films), but Steven Spielberg saw the film in advance and liked it. There was a sequel - "Piranha II: The Spawning" which was the directorial debut of one James Cameron.
