"Prisoners" Takes First Place at Box Office with $21 Million

"Prisoners" Takes First Place at Box Office with $21 MillionSubmit Comment
"Prisoners" thriller, starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, took first place at the domestic box office with around $21 million. The R-rated film was made for $46 million, which means that it will likely become profitable. It also has an impressive 78% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes.

"We're in terrific company among other fall dramas, particularly considering the film's running length of 130 minutes," said Warner Bros. "'Argo' opened to $19.5 million, 'Looper' did $20.8 million while 'Moneyball' also opened $19.5 million."

The other wide release of the weekend is Chris Brown's 3D dance movie "Battle of the Year," which opened to $5 million. That was good enough for fifth place at the box office. "Battle of the Year" cost $20 million to make and will struggle to become profitable, especially since it has a terrible 6% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes.

Meanwhile, "The Wizard of OZ" was re-released in 3D IMAX theaters. Even though it appeared in only 318 theaters, it still managed to gross over $3 million, which is second only to the re-release of "Jurassic Park."

The studio actually thought "Battle Of The Year" was going to be a smash hit? I have got to get some of the weed they are smoking.
