Watch Christian Bale's "Batman Begins" Audition in Val Kilmer's Batman Suit

On Tuesday, September 24th Warner Bros will release "The Dark Knight Trilogy: Ultimate Collector's Edition" as a Blu-ray box set, which will contain all three films and a bonus disc with several featurettes.

One of those featurettes gives us a look at Christian Bale auditioning for the role of Batman in "Batman Begins." Since it was still early in development, Bale wore Val Kilmer's "Batman Forever" and performed opposite Amy Adams (Man of Steel). We now have a look at that audition. Check it out below.

The box set also contains another audition for the Batman role, by Cillian Murphy. Even though the actor wasn't a good fit, director Christopher Nolan was so impressed with him that he cast Murphy as Scarecrow instead.

The discs also revealed that Nolan wanted Gary Oldman for the role of Ra's Al Ghul, but the actor wasn't interested since he already played lots of villains in his career. But Nolan didn't give up and was able to convince him to play Gordon.

Nolan also convinced the circus to allow Maggie Gyllenhaal to shave her face and perform in TDK

Batman Begins was so much better than TDK, I have no idea how Dark Knight has 9.0 rating on IMDB it's a solid 8 at the most for 75% of the movie then a 6 for the last ridiculous part. Heath Ledgers great performance doesn't excuse the rest of the empty shell of a film. TDKR has no redeeming qualities, just one continuity error after another and sh*t writing.

lol wtf

@cinemaisdead

TDK is rated above BB because of Heath Ledger's now-iconic performance as the Joker and also because of Aaron Eckhart doing a decent job as Two-Face. BB does have a very good take on the origin of Batman but no one outside of comic fans know who Ra's Al Ghul and Scarecrow are as villains.

TDKR has it's moments but it is a very bloated film. Bane was watchable but it does drag A LOT.

It's kinda cool, but it's kinda dumb. I dunno. I'm impressed the screen shot had a lighting set up though. That was cool.

Deaft0ne- Ekhart personally annoyed me, adding two face in to the last bit was one of the main reasons the film annoyed me. I' only judging the Batman films as someone who doesn't read the Batman comics and knows nothing except some of the famous villians, I just thought it was a better film than Dark Knight overall.

That motherless f*ck cinemaisdead annoys me personally! Ekhart was awesome as Dent/Two-Face, but those are just my personal opinions. Saw Prisoners last night, pretty good movie, one of the better ones of the summer.

@cinema

Eckhart became Two-Face about halfway through, not near the end. He was a hell of a lot better than TLJ in Batman Forever who played it like the Adam West tv series, as in campy as f*ck.

I agree- Batman Begins is a far superior film than TDK and TDKR.

Saw prisoners too. Pretty good film, though it could have been better. It dragged for a while and I figured out the villains pretty early on. Hugh was very good in the movie though

The comments always turns nasty here because everyone wants their opinion to be the ultimate and only comment. I thought the above clip was fascinating. What blew my mind was that he wore Kilmer's Batman outfit for the audition. Plus, reading with Amy Adam's is the icing on the cake. Not sure why she wasn't cast in the first place.
