Back in 2009, JJ Abrams challenged fans to find an unnamed character in his "Star Trek" film. Soon after, we learned that the character was R2-D2 from "Star Wars," something that was confirmed by the special effects company Industrial Light and Magic.

Now that "Star Trek: Into Darkness" is released on DVD and Blu-ray, fans have been searching frame-by-frame for anything else that Abrams may have hidden in the film. It turns out Abrams did in fact hide something and it's once again R2-D2. Check out the screenshot below to see for yourself.

Many believe that Abrams is including R2-D2 because he's set to direct "Star Wars: Episode VII." In reality, Abrams has always been a fan of "Star Wars" and decided to give the character a brief cameo many years before Disney hired him to helm the new "Star Wars" installment.

Didn't they also have R2-D2 in the first star trek?

its easy to hide things with the INSANE amounts of lense flares in that movie
i only saw a clip with Alice Eve begging her dad not to blow up the ship
and the flares were just distracting and annoying

you wanna have them in the posters?fine
but enough already

somebody needs to do an intervention on that guy,seriously

The photo is from the first movie. Not "Into Darkness."

So I guess it's not from the first movie. R2D2 was just flying through space then too. Whoops.

Call me when Abrams is no longer directing Star Wars. Because, otherwise, I no longer give a sh*t about what was once my favorite film series.

Fandom nostalgia and hidden Easter egg nod does not a good Star Wars director make. f*ck this. Out.

@Cannon

I feel your pain. I f*cking love Star Wars. Could do without Ewoks and Jar Jar Head, but Abrams make me squeamish. We'll see.
