Denzel Washington Turned Down Role in "Fast and Furious 7"

Denzel Washington Turned Down Role in "Fast and Furious 7"Submit Comment
In an article about how difficult it is to launch a new film franchise, Deadline wrote about "Fast and Furious" and what it took to turn a mostly-dead franchise into Universal Pictures' most lucrative series, behind "Jurassic Park."

It seems part of the success was bringing back Vin Diesel. And then to add some freshness, the studio hired Dwayne Johnson for "Fast Five" and "Fast and Furious 6." Now that James Wan (The Conjuring, Saw) is getting ready to begin filming the seventh film, Universal brought on Jason Statham and is now searching for another A-list actor to take a small role that will be a big part of the eighth movie.

It turns out that Denzel Washington was offered that role, but the actor turned it down. The studio is now looking for someone else, but by approaching Washington, it's clear that Universal is going after top talent with proven box office success.

Why don't they hire an actor who's also a professional driver in real life?

I don't know that many but Patrick Dempsey was in the last Le Mans race and he finished in an honourable place.

I love Denzel, but he's too good for this crap. Get Nick Cage instead. Glue his hair down, put him in a fast car and tell the f*cker it's Gone in 60 Seconds 2. Not like he'll know you're lying.

Bring in Travolta to play a Gabriel(Swordfish)type character

But he is aggressively gay to all the male characters

Yet another awesome entertaining franchise (definition of a movie) that minkowski wants to have a bitch fit about.... Surprise surprise.
But wait til he hears about sex and the city 3 then he will be praising it til the cows come home

Fast and the Furious is sh*t. Yeah, it's entertaining. So are toys to little children, and that's what this sh*t is: action figure rubbish for infantile minds.

I watched Rope last night, and let me tell ya', that's a real movie, back when directors gave a f*ck. Really good FILM, not just a f*cking MOVIE.

Anyway, Denzel, stay the f*ck way from this crap. Go win an Oscar or something. You've earned it. Don't sully your good name by associating with Fast and the Furious garbage, and don't listen to the 'net dweebs who think you should waste your time feeding their man-children fantasies.

We had this discussion before! I gotta watch 'rope' mink! It's been on my list of Hitchc*cks films too watch for too long lol

And Denzel would be wicked in this series, But he doesn't really suit it that well. Bring on Bruce Willis! Lmaoo
minkowski writes:

Rope is pretty f*cking good, and loosely based on an actual crime.

definitely makes Fast and the Furious look like GI JOE for uber-retards, that for sure.

Smart move Denzel.

@mink!
No body really wants to watch sh*t based on real events.
If that's what you are after go watch YouTube, movies are a way to get out of day to day life and see an entertaining scenario that doesn't have real world consequences.
You think you know what the good movies are which is mostly sh*t that no one has heard of. You make other people think that you could be spike lee or some similar douche.
What makes you such an expert on something such as movies which in reality is opinion based and as I have said earlier... Piss off from this site if you hate movies which you clearly do and go stick to national geographic and YouTube.

You're literally too stupid to insult. You have my pity.

Yeah I guess I hallucinated that 2 billlion+ dollar at the BO movie Titanic, which was largely based on sh*t that actually happened.

This ollos dope is delusional like stapes is. I can't see Denzel as a good fit for F&F but Jason Statham definitely did fit in at the very end of Fast 6.

If they want a black guy, get Wesley Snipes. They want someone who can be a corny actor like no other get Hugh Jackman, They want someone bankable get Dicaprio hahaha!
pornfly writes:

Nobody wants to see movies based on true events?

Yea,that guy sounds like a fun date
no Goodfellas/Raging Bull for this guy
it must be a Final Fantasy fun fest over there

Theyv been milkin that Amityville sh*t for decades
even a movie about the moving men that moved people in and out of that house would beat The Lone Ranger at the box office

TheSwipe95 writes:
on August 4th, 2013 at 1:37:59 PM

@minkowski So, there are movies that you like! It's a miracle! Now that leaves only 99.999% of all movies to have a bitch fit about.
