"Scream," "Rosemary's Baby," and Stephen King's "Tommyknockers" to Become TV Series

Posted: July 28th, 2013 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
"Scream," "RosemarySubmit Comment
We recently found out that instead of moving forward with a fifth "Scream" film, Dimension Films has decided to focus on a "Scream" television series. MTV has now learned that Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin ("Revenge," "The Event," "Criminal Minds") have been hired to write the script. Wes Craven is in talks to direct the pilot episode.

Meanwhile, NBC has revealed that it's developing a four-hour TV mini-series based on Ira Levin's "Rosemary's Baby" novel that was later turned into a 1968 film, directed by child rapist Roman Polanski.

The network is also developing a new TV series based on Stephen King's 1987 novel "Tommyknockers," about the residents of a small Maine town and how they deal with what they perceive to be an alien spacecraft that has landed nearby. Yves Simoneau (Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee) will direct.

And finally, NBC has ordered a four-hour mini-series based on former first lady Hillary Clinton, starring Diane Lane. "Hilary" will be written and directed by Courtney Hunt (Frozen River) and will recount Clinton's life as a wife, mother, and politician from 1998 to the present. The script will begin with Clinton living in the White House as her husband is serving the second of his two terms as president. It will include her likely run for president.

The theatrical film "Rodham," also based on Hillary Clinton, is still in development, but will focus on Clinton's formative years when she met Bill Clinton.

The networks are looking for their own WALKING DEAD juggernaut. I'm still baffled at how huge that show is, and the major networks passed on it. Scifi/fantasy/horror shows can be successful, but the quality has to be there. Also, I think a lot of it has to do the changing attitudes of the audience. Zombie films have been around for years with only middling success, but WALKING DEAD comes along and it's a huge hit. It's hard to tell what will succeed nowadays.

I don't see ow any of them will work as a series. Maybe a one off series of like 6 episodes but not season after season of upwards of 18 episodes. Pass

@Cress. Do you watch the walking dead? Its a good show and the second season was great at 12 episodes but now they are starting to stretch the length and the 3rd season seemed to overstay its welcome.

Tommyknockers was so f*cking dumb.. I turned that movie off half way in. But I'd maybe watch The scream show, At least a pilot.

@Tony. I thought the first half of Season 3 was very good, but the second half was terrible. The season finale was a piece of crap.

Really wish the networks would push more educational material and less of this violent, bloody garbage.

Wouldn't mind a From A Buick miniseries, if well done.
