Joss Whedon Says Black Widow is Huge Part of "The Avengers 2"

Joss Whedon Says Black Widow is Huge Part of "The Avengers 2"Submit Comment
After it was announced that the villain in "The Avengers" sequel will be Ultron, it became clear that none of the superheroes are safe, especially when Joss Whedon said several times that he would like to swap out some of the current characters for new ones.

Whedon recently said that he will make Hawkeye a big part of the movie, which likely means that this will be the last time we'll see him. And now, the director tells MTV that Black Widow will also play a bigger part.

"Natasha is a huge part of the sequel because you do want to concentrate on the people who don't have their own franchises, although she in 'Captain America 2,'" he explained. "She was the most fun for me because she's not a hero, [she's a spy.] And that just makes her so interesting to me. The stuff I've got going on with her in the second one is killer."

Is this the end for Black Widow? Who knows. But Whedon seems pretty excited about introducing Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, so someone definitely has to step out of the way.

Yeah and reflections are a huge part of Whedon's f*cking forehead.

Ultron probably makes all 4 of them explode into spaghetti. Who cares.

"She was the most fun for me because she's not a hero, [she's a spy.]"

Right, because you can't be both a hero and a spy, which is why Snowden has millions of fans comparing him to Benjamin Franklin, but that's an unnecessary argument because Natasha is part of the Avengers, and you don't get there and stay there if you're not a hero.

Huge part? I hope it's those boobies of her. mmmmmm Scarlett boobies....

She won't die. Hawkeye, maybe, but with Black Widow they're likely going to try and build her up for her own spin-off series; Marvel continuing it's franchise expansion. And they're not stupid: sex sells, and Scarlett Johansson in tight Lycra is enough to seed a potentially 'not-terrible' solo film that will bring in the fanboys...and girls.

This movie is almost 2 years away from release and we've already received tons of articles about it.

There HAS to be other movie news besides Avengers 2 information.

Its not surprising. Whedon has always been more prone to the strong female/empowerment type characters. Personally I think it may be a smart idea to focus more on characters that you can actually expand on since the main superheroes have all their movies to do this.

Yep. Ever since Jimmy Cameron mad it a cliche.

It has become something of a cliché, yeah. I'm not against interesting female characters who aren't just damsels in distress. But the extreme opposite that we see in so many of these geeky genre films has, in and of itself, since become tired and one-note.

If I was Whedon, yeah, I'd want to give Scarlet a *ahem* big part as well...

I kinda like that the rumor going around that heroes might be killed off...it makes it seem all bets are off, so anything can happen. Beats the hell out of just retreading the same formula that made the first one money...

right MIB II?!

Whedon is basically obsessed with women physically abusing men on film/television.

I bet he has a thing for chicks kicking his forehead or something. Maybe that's why it's so big. It's just permanently swollen.

All I know is that Bruce Banner and Hulk better freaking have an expanded role in this one as well. Two Hulk-outs in the last third or so of the movie is just crazy...and since we aren't getting another Hulk film until AFTER Age of Ultron at the earliest...you could argue that Hulk doesn't really have his own franchise either.
BlackDynamite writes:

I think when Whedon said Widow isn't a "hero, just a 'spy'" he meant Widow doesn't have super powers, so she can't do these big awesome CGI filled things that the "heroes" can, so she has to rely on her physical and mental prowess to stack up next to the big boys.

If I remember correctly Black Widow gets disfigured in Age of Ultron. Whedon have the balls to do that?
