Joss Whedon Says Agent Coulson Won't Appear in "The Avengers" Sequel

Posted: July 24th, 2013 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
Joss Whedon Says Agent Coulson WonSubmit Comment
Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) died in "The Avengers," but will be brought back in the new TV series, called "SHIELD," which will this fall on ABC. Since Coulson it turned out that Coulson is alive, director Joss Whedon was asked if the character will return for "The Avengers" sequel.

"Right now it's not something I'm pursuing because I have so much going on in 'Avengers 2,'" he explained. "Finding out that Coulson is alive would be an entire B story. And I already have too much movie."

Whedon went on to say that the TV series will not swap characters with Marvel's cinematic universe, mostly because he wants the TV series to grow on its own.

Good. Next to Hawkeye, he was the most worthless character of the entire film. Even Jackson had more use filling the token black role than those two losers.

In other words
I had to kill off Coulson to pay for RDJ

@mink
In Renner's defense, which there hasn't been much, he did have a part in the plot by being controlled the whole time as a henchmen. He also served as an emotional tie for Black Widow who, up until this point, was a fairly boring character. And Caulson served as a connection between all of them as well and the reason the team comes together.

Superheroes brought together because some upper management nobody they didn't even really know croaked? Because saving the world isn't its own reward?

Killing Hawkeye to bring them together would have made more sense and would have made the film much, much better.

I mean, adding Renner's character to the Avengers is like adding some spear-chucking Zulu warlord to a pack of Delta or Ranger soldiers.

Good. With the pretty much promised addition of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, and the potential addition of Vision...there need to be a few less ancillary characters. It made sense for the first, you wanted as many characters who had already appeared to show up again...that was part of the appeal.

But Coulson, Pepper Potts, and Eric Selvig don't need to be soaking up any screen time in this one...no matter how little they had in the first film. The 'World Security Council' doesn't really need to return either. Let's also scale RDJ's role back just a tad.

Naturally since he was/is the most popular, The Avengers stayed very centric to his character...but now that the formula worked, maybe we can give a character like Banner/Hulk a bit more of a juicier part.

Why do people even like Coulson? Overrated character, best moment was when he died.

Eh who cares his purpose is fine and over with.

I like Coulson. He is the human element amongst super beings. His dry comedic tone is great and a good break from the hero stuff.

Mink as per usual your wrong for the lose of coulson could be seen that this enemy means business if he's willing to kill one person what's to stop him kill more so there for the avengers had to take him seriously
minkowski writes:

You're a f*cking idiot, hellsingfan.

Loki had already killed folks before Coulson "perished", and as if invading the world with the intention of destroying it doesn't send the signal you mean business far louder than killing some easily replaceable douche suit.

I welcome your erudite and informed rebuttal, oh loyal fan of Pokemon.

so no more homo dialogues with captain america ? now putman and Alex completely lost interest in this sequel
Cinemaisdead writes:

Agent who? Oh that guy in the suit who had a few more lines than the other guys in suits. I'm sure they will cope just fine without him.

Actually Loki hadn't killed before dumbass

@Hellsing

So the opening attack on S.H.I.E L.D. doesn't count? I like Coulson's character but they should've kept him dead. More effective for the cinematic universe.
minkowski writes:

I sure do remember a lot of destruction and people apparently getting blown up before Coulson "died", but I guess defending the world from imminent annihilation isn't enough to get the Avengers to assemble, they need some stuffy d*ck in a tight suit to do that for them.
hellsingfan writes:
on July 25th, 2013 at 2:33:30 AM

Ok mink I'm going to say this nice and slow so your tiny brain can understand in the eyes if the avengers Loki was not a serious threat so when they heard coulson was dead they were forced to take him mor seriously does your tiny brain understand that
minkowski writes:

You should spend more time reading a dictionary, hellsingfag, and less time mulching your c*ck to Bleach.

That is all.
BlackDynamite writes:

Honestly, Coulson's death would have really only affected Tony Stark, and to a lesser extent Captain America, because they were the only ones who had more than 7 seconds of dialogue with him.

I suppose in the bigger scheme of things, Black Widow and Hawkeye would have known him, but only as a coworker.
