Chris Benoit Biopic "Crossface" Hires DirectorPosted: July 22nd, 2013 by WorstPreviews.com Staff
|
Last year SRG Films announced development of "Crossface," a new film based on WWE wrestler Chris Benoit, who killed his family and then himself back in 2007. Now comes word that Vicente Amorim has signed on to direct. Amorim previously directed "Good," with Viggo Mortensen, as well as "Too Much Brazil," "The Middle of the World" and "Dirty Hearts."
"Crossface" will chronicle the pressures that Benoit faced through his wrestling career and how a lethal combination of drug-use, depression, and head trauma became unbearable for him. Sarah Coulter wrote the script.
"Chris Benoit's story is the perfect vehicle for a fiercely honest film that is as much about him and the world of wrestling as it is about America and show business," said Amorim. "I am very happy to be on board to help tell this story."
The plan is to begin filming next year. No word on who will play Benoit.

Beyond The Mat and The Wrestler are all you need to see about the pressures that wrestlers face.
This trash is just rubbing salt in the graves of the family members that Benoit murdered in cold blood because he was a sick f*cking crazy sc*mbag.

Oh BooHoo! The surviving family members should be allowed some peace. There is NO NEED for a movie about a piece of $hit that killed his family. Could have just offed himself, which alone is a selfish move, but he made suicide, which is the pinacle of selfishness, even worse by taking innocent lives with him. F him and his stupid, fake career!

hellsingfan shut the f*ck up. Benoit was a toothless ugly c*nt that should have killed himself and spared his unfortunate family. f*ck you and all these wrestling c*nts. FAKE f*cking crap with guys that f*ck each other in the change room.
I am glad the c*nt is dead just a shame more of these wrestling and UFC c*nts don't follow suit.

Oh man, if only there already was a movie that shows the pains as professional wrestler deals with day-in and day-out. I wish I could watch that movie right now! I wish that movie had a great director and lead performance!
I sure do wish that movie already existed!

@jb we all no wrestling is fake but you try telling that to the men and women that get injured because sure ain't fake and its idiots like you that will always say wrestling is fake because you have nothing better to do and the fact you wish both wrestlers and UFC people would proves my point

Wrestling is scripted, not fake. Sure, not all of the punches land, but theres no way to fake throwing your body around in some of the ways they do. Things are bound to happen.
I say this only to clarify, not to defend pro wrestling and certainly not to defend Benoit. Plenty of other wrestlers have taken drugs, suffered head trauma and everything else that happened to Benoit. They're still here and so are their families. Benoit had things on his mind like the deaths of friends? Maybe they shouldn't have taken all those drugs. Maybe they should have lived a little cleaner, and their hearts wouldn't have exploded when they were 40.
There may be a legitimate and cautionary tale to be told here about the things wrestlers go through and the injuries they suffer, but it's not much different than any other pro athlete. And the story can be told without sensationalizing the death of an innocent woman and child. As someone mentioned, there are movies like The Wrestler and Beyond the Mat which shed light on these issues without glamorizing or trying to excuse double murder.
This movie does not need to be made, and it's nothing more than a sick attempt to cash in on a horrible tragedy. To play it off as an attempt at shedding light on something that most people know about anyway only makes it worse.
