Director Says 18-Page Treatment for "District 9" Sequel Exists

Director Says 18-Page Treatment for "District 9" Sequel ExistsSubmit Comment
Ever since Neill Blomkamp made his "District 9" sci-fi film, which grossed over $210 million on a budget of $30 million, fans have been craving a sequel. Blomkamp instead moved on to other projects, but it turns out that a sequel is far from dead.

In a new interview with Wired magazine, the director revealed that he has an 18-page treatment for "District 10," but the only thing he would say about it is that it's "really f*cking cool." The bad news is that Blomkamp has no plans to drop everything he's doing and commit to the sequel.

In the same interview, Blomkamp revealed that there were talks of him directing "Star Wars: Episode VII." The helmer wasn't ready to take on the franchise, which is why he turned down the offer.

It will never happen.

Call me when Blompkamp realizes he can shoot in other colors besides grey, green and yellow.

He would have made a good director for ep 7. hope he will be considered for ep 8 or 9 or one of the spinoffs

I would love to see it happen. I really liked Disrict 9. Awesome take on such a worn out, over used plot (although I will never tire of Alien themed movies)

I don't want him and his grimy, gritty stylistic approach anywhere near Star Wars, thank you very much.

I really am Rooting for this guy to pull of elysium and stay unique. Love district 9

Blah, not news. Treatments for unproduced sequels number in the hundreds, this article is pure filler noone gives a sh*t about.

I'd watch a sequel lol

I don't care what any fanboy says, special effects aside, District 9 was not a well written movie. It hardly made any sense.

I will say I'm interested in Elysium, but there's never a last time to be disappointed by Hollywood.

It would have been interesting to see the halo film he made if microsoft didnt chicken out on the budget size

I'd prefer he wait 10 years before making the sequel to District 9, so that some big changes have happened to the World.

As for him helming Star Wars, he'd be a great choice to make a Han Solo or Boba Fett spin off rather than one of the main features.

The film was great. Support the filmmakers making original movies. Not original crap of course. But good original filmmaking!

I liked District 9 a lot... even though he benefitted from the Halo film's castoffs he got a TON of bang for his buck on a $30 million budget. He's a good director that could become great. I have high hopes for Elysium.

Oh, and @Chris_G, perhaps you should have another look at how Ep. 4 looked originally. Although he shied away from the handheld, he shot on Kodak 5247 which can look as 'gritty' and desaturated as anything the Red ONE puts out.

And by 'he', I mean George Lucas. duh

Holy crap.... Was district 9 made fore only 30 mill!! Even more impressive

And I agree. He seems to be unique. He is good and could become great.
