Fox Searchlight has unveiled the trailer for its upcoming "12 Years a Slave" film, starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, and Sarah Paulson. Check it out below.
Plot: The movie is based on the 1853 autobiography of Solomon Northrup (Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, who was abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty (from slave owner played by Fassbender), as well as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity. In the twelfth year of his unforgettable odyssey, Solomon's chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist (Pitt) will forever alter his life.
The new movie is directed by Steve McQueen (Hunger, Shame) and is set to hit theaters on October 18th, in limited release.

^^You're probably thinking of Thomas Jefferson, who is theorized to have had sex with one of his slaves, although it's more likely his brother was the one raiding the hen house instead.
Washington, on the other hand
"...was the only major planter among the seven Founding Fathers to emancipate his slaves. His will provided for freeing his slaves upon the death of his widow Martha Washington, but she emancipated them about 12 months after his death. At various times in his life, Washington privately expressed strong support for the gradual abolition of slavery.".
Granted she did escape (but who wouldnt if they could) but then Washington made the the fugitive slave act so if any of his slaves run away he owns any of their children or future worth they aquire. Prety vindictive asshat thing to do
an 80 min movie that should have been a short 45 min tv movie - Deniro is on autopiolot which actually is quite good compared to anything else you see today on hollywood but travolta's performance and his ridiculous accent ruin the movie a bit , plus the movie is quite repetitive and looks like it was shot in 2 weeks.
still some pretty solid scenes and overall watchable.

is this Sean Penn's 'Taken' ?
''Yep, it could be the first in a series
Wouldn't it be nice for this to become a franchise?' "
producer Joel Silver said
the problem with characterizing it as sean penn's "Taken" is that most of us have already seen "Taken." no reason to see it again, especially since Neeson's a better fit for a role like that... Sean Penn is O-L-D, maybe he can get a bit part getting his head blown off in Expendables 3
It's just more slave sh*t is what it is. I mean, all the historical periods in history and Hollywood has to keep coming back to THIS one parochial moment in time, like the entire world and its history is defined by the fact some white people kept some black people as farm machinery.
Who cares? Really? It was like a thousand years ago, and I know a lot of black Americans use slavery as a form of grievance leverage, but even then they're about as removed from the actual events and circ*mstances as I am from the French Revolution.
If they're going to do history for Christ's sake, pick some other moment, some other event, some other era or epoch. Do one on the Vikings discovering North America, or on Tutankhamen, or Napolean, or the f*cking moon landing.
No more race-baiting, politically-correct, left-wing hagiographic horsesh*t just so someone somewhere can rub their goatee and feel good about who they believe they are.
I kinda agree with Mink. It would be nice to see some other periods of history in movies. granted I get that slavery and the civil war are a big deal in American history, but since US kids get most of their education from movies these days, maybe Hollywood should focus on something else.
I mean really US slaves didn't even have it that bad compared to some other moments in history. We love violence so much, but don't even focus on some of the most awful moments in history. like the 30 year war, the sh*t that went down in the Belgium Congo, Rape of Nanking..ect. come on Hollywood do something else
