Zachary Quinto Says "Star Trek 3" Will Shoot Next Year, JJ Abrams Wants to Direct

Zachary Quinto Says "Star Trek 3" Will Shoot Next Year, JJ Abrams Wants to DirectSubmit Comment
It was recently reported that JJ Abrams initially took the job of directing "Star Trek" because he wanted to be part of a massive franchise that was a top merchandise seller. Unfortunately, rights issues prevented him from making the kind of money he wanted, which is why he jumped at the chance of taking on "Star Wars: Episode VII."

Now that "Star Trek: Into Darkness" has grossed $444 million worldwide, Paramount Pictures considers the film a hit, despite the fact that it cost a whopping $190 million to make. The studio is moving forward with a third installment, and according to Zachary Quinto, will do so earlier than expected.

The actor appeared at the Galway Film Festival in Ireland where he told the audience that "Star Trek 3" will shoot in 2014, confirming that fans won't have to wait four years to see the third film. He went on to say that Abrams wants to direct it.

It possible that Abrams may return to complete a trilogy, but it's very unlikely. "Star Wars: Episode VII" is set to be released in 2015, which means that he'll be busy shooting it during the time that "Star Trek 3" will go into production. Stay tuned.

Abrams and his merry band of lens flares are occupied at the moment, Quinto, so go shove a tampon up your ass.

I doubt Paramount will have it ready by 2015. I also wonder if they will go back to a Thanksgiving/Christmas release, since INTO DARKNESS wasn't the mega-blockbuster they had anticipated. Every Trek film since '91 up until the '09 reboot was released at that time.

Paramount should have gone for another television series. The Enterprise G in the 25th Century. Would have been spectacular, instead of that Enterprise prequel sh*t.

@Mink. Do you think it should be syndicated, or go to a broadcast or cable network?
minkowski writes:

@Cress: It should go the Showtime route so we could finally get a more mature take on the property, something slightly more adult and realistic. Less Jar Jar Crusher and more the horror one might expect when dealing with aliens such as the Borg.

But then I dunno if that's possible or not. Star Trek was on CBS, originally, and TNG and the others were on UPN, I think. Dunno if Paramount is contractual obligated to use network instead of cable and I dunno if Showtime et al would want to pay for such a show. Fox might be a decent compromise.

I think TNG, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager were all syndicated. Enterprise was UPN.

Damn, that's a lot of series.

@Cress: I don't recall. Could have sworn I watched at least Voyager on UPN too. Wiki says syndication on TNG. All I know is I didn't see it on any of the Big Three. Whatever was the fourth free channel back then. FOX? Nope.

So I guess syndication.

Voyager was on UPN too.

I don't want to see a 3rd movie with all these idiots. It will probably just be some stupid remake of The Menagerie anyways, which brought Captain Pike back to life, and Pike died in STID, played by the great Bruce Greenwood.

Reboot please!

He might as well, seeing as I have zero interest in either franchise at this point.

I'd much rather see a 3rd Star Trek then a new Star Wars :/

Has quinto ever been in anything besides this and that sh*t show heroes? He better hope the Star Trek train keeps going or he might as well end it like the glee kid
