Harvey Weinstein Says "The Butler" Controversy is Due to "The Hobbit"

Harvey Weinstein Says "The Butler" Controversy is Due to "The Hobbit"Submit Comment
The Weinstein Company is currently working on their new movie, called "The Butler," starring Forest Whitaker and just about half of Hollywood. The problem is that Warner Bros says the movie will create confusion in the market because Warner Bros has a 1916 silent short film by the same name.

When the case was presented in front of a judge, the judge sided with Warner Bros. Now Harvey Weinstein is speaking out about this, claiming that there's more going on here.

"122 times in the history of movies, titles have been used and repeated," he started. "Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy have a movie out called 'Heat.' Jason Statham is shooting a movie called 'Heat.' Bob De Niro and Al Pacino made a movie called 'Heat' and ten years before that Burt Reynolds made a movie called 'Heat.' And 'Unstoppable' has been done 5 times. I think there's an ulterior motive."

Weinstein went on to say that he believes Warner Bros is upset that he owns 2.5% of "The Hobbit" and refuses to simply hand over his shares to the studio. "I was asked by two execs at Warner Brothers that if I gave them back the rights to 'The Hobbit' they would drop the claim," he said. "For a 1916 short? This was used as a bullying tactic."

Weinstein. Another left-wing liberal Jew *sshole pandering to the black people they otherwise won't hire and can't really stand.

Riiiiiiight. A film form a century ago will create confusion, but two White House terrorist movies in five months won't.

Hollywood ain't too bright.

@mink
Since we talked about him on another post you can guess what I'll say but you are right. Weinstein is an *sshole human being who likes to make things bigger than they are. "Silver Linings Playbook" is about bi-polarism but really that is just a backdrop to a poorly conceived, predictable romantic story. "The Butler", I'm telling you, might be good or might not but it depends on how it is put across. Will it have racial implications? It should considering the time periods that the main character passes through. But will he overdue it to prove a point because of his liberal perspective? Most likely. In which an actually pretty interesting movie concept will be turned into one big Affirmative Action campaign.

f*ck, weinstein, the *sshole has more money than God and cares nothing about the arts. This movie looked good to me, but I'm boycotting anything this bastard does. He started in the indie realm but he's the kind of guy that gives jews a bad name. He's a stereotype.

and if that gimpy chickensh*t, mink/plastic/ranger, has anything to say about my post, I'll catch up with that faggot tomorrow.

@Sleuth: to me, Weinstein is a panderer. He probably hates black people. Probably sees himself as better because he has money and they don't. He then bankrolls movies like The Butler, exaggerative movies that make some sandwich maker into an unofficial White House cabinet appointee, to appease his otherwise unaddressed guilt. He then goes on to lament violence in America while signing off on ten new movies wherein big mean men with bigger meaner guns blow people in half.

He's a hypocrite too, then, like you said, and he cares really only about money, also like you said.

This just does not look like a very good movie, regardless of the subject matter.

Precious, by the same director was mostly a Lifetime movie and extremely overrated.

minkowski writes:

I do agree with Weinstein that WB is using this as a bullying tactic, because there's no way in hell they think they can own the title The Butler just because of some short from 1916 that should be out of copyright anyway.

Seriously, though, how in hell is the 1916 short not in public domain?
