Johnny Depp Isn't Signed for "The Lone Ranger" Sequel, But Wants to Return

Disney has been desperate to create a new franchise for itself, which is why it dumped $250 million into "The Lone Ranger," which re-teamed Johnny Depp with his "Pirates of the Caribbean" director Gove Verbinski.

When E! Online caught up with the stars of the movie, Depp, Armie Hammer and Ruth Wilson, the website was curious whether anyone signed a contract to return for future installments. Hammer said he's signed on for several more films. "I'm signed for three," added Wilson.

Depp, however, refused to sign a multi-picture deal. "I think it was a one-shot deal," he revealed. "[But] if they started talking sequel on this I'd be ready to go in a second."

Depp knows he has the power to avoid signing a multi-picture agreement in order to negotiate himself a huge pay raise for the sequel. Unfortunately, it's starting to look like we may never get a sequel, since "The Lone Ranger" is tracking poorly and would likely need around $700 million at the box office just to break even.

No one gave a f*ck about this movie from day one. I call 250 million worldwide for this cinematic abortion of a misfire and that's being very generous.

700 mil just to break even? How? Did it cost 350 million to make? And why is Johnny Depp playing an indian all painted white with a dead bird on his head?

I wonder if that catchy "Tonto, jump on it, jump on it, jump on it" song from the 80s will be on The Lone Ranger's soundtrack.

250!? No way man, I'm saying at least 300-400M. Don't underestimate the power of Johnny depp. Not to mention the millions of people who will go see it just to see what "250 Million" Dollars looks like on screen.

no, I'd agree with the $250 million number. maybe as much as $300 million, but probably not more than that. in the world of Jerry Bruckheimer, this one's gonna go the way of the sorcerer's apprentice or Prince of Persia... if the tracking is lousy for American audiences that's not a good sign, and the lone ranger is a pretty distinctly American icon, I doubt people in India or China or Germany have a profound interest in that character...

Since it cost $250 million to make it would need to make around $500 to $600 to break even
