"Knight Rider" is Moving Forward as Big Budget Action Film

"Knight Rider" is Moving Forward as Big Budget Action FilmSubmit Comment
The last time we heard of any plans to make a "Knight Rider" movie, based on the popular 1980s TV show, was back in 2002. Since then we got a reboot TV series in 2008, that only lasted for seventeen episodes, and now comes word that The Weinstein Company is once again interested in a feature film.

LA Times learned that Brad Copeland, who wrote "Yogi Bear" and John Travolta's "Wild Hogs," wrote for "Arrested Development," and has been working on reboots of other shows like "Gilligan's Island," has been hired to put together the script for "Knight Rider."

The Weinstein Company wants to turn "Knight Rider" into a big-budget action film, similar to the "Fast and Furious" franchise. David Hasselhoff, who starred in the original series, has expressed interest in playing a part in the new movie.

More 80's rebooting.

Let's see, What's left from the 80's for Hollywood? Chips, Fall Guy, Street Hawk, AirWolf, Blue Thunder, & Hardcastle and McCormick?

Finally, a chance for The Hoff to get his horrible-acting self on the big screen. So pick that cheeseburger up off the floor, David, put a shirt on, and sober the f*ck up. It's time to prepare for your 5-second cameo.

Will Arnett for the voice of KITT please.

@Biomech011: you forgot Simon & Simon :)

I know Hwood is low on material, but pilfering the 80s hasn't exactly worked out lately. Transformers is the only huge success followed by GI JOE and on a lesser scale 21 Jump St., but everything else has failed. So why does Hwood continue with this insanity? I guess 3 attempts at rebooting Knight Rider just weren't enough.

WTF is Street Hawk?

Magnum P.I. -- with Tom Selleck as (the voice of) Robin Masters.

That show was pimp.

Better use a Black Camaro or possibly even the FireBreather from the failed JINN movie for KITT...

I actually didn't like Source Code mostly because it was just one time period. Would have been better if it was like that but, nothing compared to Quantum Leap in my eyes.

Blue Thunder was a spin off from the movie btw.

Oh dear Lord please stop this madness!!

The hoff already has his legions of german fans mailing in letters and theyre underwear to the studio pleading for him to be in it. Hell the guy recently used KITT in a music video of his.

I strongly urge EVERYONE to look up the music video on youtube for "Get out of my car" by the hoff. You will never regret it. I swear

People need to get it through their thick skulls that most of the source material from these 80's shows sucked a lot of big fat donkey c*ck. You were 9 when it was on the air, and didn't realize how much it sucked back then... but go back and watch Knight Rider now, I dare you. Prepare to realize how sh*tty it was- and still is.

How come Phoenix? They would need a damn good writer but it could work if they tried hard enough. And make it like, he would leap through more than one date instead of one long leap just in movie form. Maybe have the different time periods be connected to each other but then something happens and is forced to change something. They could make it work somehow. But it's Hollywood and I believe all of us on this site have a better imagination and writing skills as those douches.

I still watch Quantum Leap today. Favorite episode was the 3 parter where he lept into Lee Harvey Oswald.

Quantum Leap was a great show and only the first season aired in 1989. A movie would be cool.
pornfly writes:

For the most part MAYO you are correct
But the exception is Knight Rider

Sure theres a touch of cheesiness here and there
Tall dark 80s tv version of american James Bond played by a virtually unknown actor
Badass car
Boss with an english accent
Hot car mechanic
Cool gadgets
Arch enemies-K.A.R.R./ The Real Michael Knight(complete with moustache)

And when it needed a turbo boost of ratings, it didnt add an obnoxious kid or a girl car.
They f*cked K.I.T.Ts sh*t up and brought him back with Super-Pursuit Mode and a drop top

I understand your frustration though
Hollywood is takin these cheesy plot lines and makin them worse instead of leavin them where they belong

Certain things cannot be duplicated
Everything was just at the right place right time for that show and thats where it needs to stay

DEAF
Will Arnett was going to do the show originally but he was then the voice for whatever car company he was with and was a conflict of interest

Now who wants a waterfall bong rip
Deaft0ne writes:

@pornfly

Yeah I know that Arnett almost did the reboot and Val Kilmer did it at the last minute because he was a fan of the original show lol.
