Ryan Reynolds Drops Out of "Highlander" Reboot

Ryan Reynolds Drops Out of "Highlander" RebootSubmit Comment
About two years ago, Summit Entertainment's "Highlander" reboot was at a great place. Justin Lin (Fast Five) was on board to direct and Ryan Reynolds was brought on to star.

Several months later, Lin dropped out, claiming that he's too busy with other projects. The studio quickly hired Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Days Later), but the Fresnadillo also soon dropped out due to creative differences.

Summit has been working to find another director, but now comes word that Reynolds has dropped out as well. Even though the studio isn't excited about starting from scratch, they see this as an opportunity for a new director to cast his own lead actor instead of being forced to work with Reynolds.

That's a good news. I'm getting sick and tired of that pretty boy. They should cast Gerard Butler instead. He's Scottish.

Highlander. A film that doesn't need a remake, but definitely needs its sequels scrubbed from existence.

You're not going to better Sean Connery - the Egyptian with a broad Scottish accent, nor Clancy Brown - the biggest bad ass since "The Terminator (1)" - nor the sound track.

James Purefoy resembles Chris Lambert and if Lionsgate were smart they would hire him.

Boogiel beat me to it.

Butler is the best actor for this reboot.

Reynolds would've been miscast anyways. The Highlander role needs to be seen as world-worn, seen-it-all character (older beyond his years) and Reynolds' pretty boy mug looks more like when-are-they-gonna-open-the-Gap? I know he's a solid actor, but he wouldn't be able to pull that off.

Like that lame snail racing movie, Reynolds is a big name to brag, but there are just better people for the role.

And you guys are right, Butler would be great in the role, but the best would be Purefoy. He could pull off the mug perfectly...plus he knows his abilities with the sword as seen on Solomon Kane.

The problem is that it really needs to be a deep, complex, action-packed movie...it doesn't even have to have a large budget. But the original is hard to beat... the premise, the action, the soundtrack. It really was lightning in a bottle. Guess thats why the sequels never measured up.

I still can't believe the original started out with a wrestling match...who the f*ck does that?! LOL...

Good. Now only if the Highlander reboot will drop out the Highlander reboot, I could get some sleep.

Good posts, everyone (Gary oldman).

Reynolds needs to save his career. Because we all know RIPD will BOMB like its Dresden

Fassbender or Eric from True Blood (Alexander Skarsgard) would be good leads.

Good news indeed. Reynolds brings nothing to any film he does. He's not leading man material, he's a homosexual pin-up. Get the guy who did Raid Redemption or Dredd and cast some relatively unknown actor.
