Warner Bros Wants "Man of Steel 2" in Theaters Next Year

Warner Bros Wants "Man of Steel 2" in Theaters Next YearSubmit Comment
The initial plan was to release "Justice League" during the summer of 2015, but Warner Bros had trouble figuring out what it wanted to do with its DC superheroes, finally deciding to focus on "Man of Steel" first. As well as its potential sequel.

The new Superman movie has now opened to almost $200 million at the worldwide box office, plus it earned over $160 million in cross-promotions and product placements. And of course, there's the billions of dollars that the studio will earn from Superman merchandise.

In other words, the film is a hit. This is why Warner Bros is fast-tracking the sequel. And according to the Wall Street Journal, the studio wants "Man of Steel 2" in theaters as early as 2014. In addition, "Justice League" may just keep its original release date. The newspaper says Warner Bros is already developing "Justice League" for 2015.

like that will happen it only took 3 year to get this one out well worth the wait though

I wouldn't trust WSJ, they have latinoreviewed a lot in the past.

If it's true - not only will that movie cost a lot to make. A f*cking lot. But it'll probably be mediocre at best.

They had all the time they wanted with this one and still, let's say it has its problems.

So it would have to be summer 2014 for maximum profits... they better start filming now then. I can't see why rushing a film this much could possibly have an impact on the quality...

they can just shoot 9 hours of explosions and split it into 3 movies and make tons of money.
if they need help - call peter jackson.

I like what Rambo said, not because it's especially funny, but because it's especially true. The Bayification of modern cinema continues.

Anywho, if WB/DC had any brains they would have shot Man of Steel 1 and 2 back to back, then they could have spent the next year marketing the f*ck out the second film. Now they want to do in less than a year what took them at least three. As Dirt said: good luck.

Oh, and Henry Cavill, pecs and abs and all, will NEVER be Christopher Reeve, not that he's trying to be or wants to be Reeve.

No, I dont think Cavill wants to.

(Note: originally, Superman could only jump really high, not fly)

Christopher Reeve was riding a horse on top of a house and then fell off, get it right swoop.

True. They need to explain what took them soooo long to make this first. A film usually takes one year from start of shooting to theatrical release. They may have been scared to do back to back after "Superman Returns" though. And why didn't they spend some of that time fixing the scene where his father dies. That was soooo stupid. His mother wants the father to run toward a tornado for a stupid dog. Clark is supposed to be as fast as flash. He could have saved the stupid dog without being seen or being no more than a "Blur". Later the mother shows no guilt for sending her husband to his death for a stupid dog. Clark shows no guilt or second guessing. Needless to say I rolled my eyes at this scene.

No way in hell will the Justice League meet the 2015 release date. At least not by Summer. And if they don't flesh out some of their characters with their own movies they will be throwing money away. The individual Marvel movies worked as promotions for "The Avengers".

I truly believe WB/DC is going to screw this up. I just don't know how bad.

You f*cktards. Everyone knows that Christopher Reeve was riding a horse inside a submarine when that crashed into a Disney cruise-liner. And that he was coked-up.

Get your sh*t straight, WPers.

Well its possible. Snyder has no directing gigs officially lined up. It was already reported that the sequel was being written, and could already be complete. I doubt cavil is too busy yet to jump back in. Amy adams they might need to wait for or schedule around her scenes for awhile.

if they could get everything in place and start filming by august it should be enough time for the special effects guys. Marketing would have a trailer ready by christmas.

So just theoretically speaking here, since all the parts were already moving/maybe completed its possible a quality sequel could make it out by mid summer next year. Id say 4th of july holiday 4 day haul.

Now having said that....I wouldnt do it. But I dont know everything thats already been done. Just the facts available.

Also remember that some real classics out there have been made in far less time. Special effects extravaganzas and all. Ill hold my true opinion until more facts become available/when this report gets confirmed or denied.

I say keep an open mind for now

vincere01 writes:

Usually the biggest roadblocks to fast tracking sequels is scheduling conflicts. Bigger stars have commitments in place. And some just dont want to risk being typecast and want to branch out in other roles before returning.

usually directors also want to make other films inbetween as well, usually long gestating ones they could never make until studios started getting hard ons for them.

its safe to safe right now that snyder is not that kind of commodity yet. He seems to only have value to WB. and he is not a creator/writter/director. So as long as they pay him I guarantee he will drop anything he is doing currently.

This is kind of a rare oppourtunity and set of circ*mstances for a studio to take full advantage of here.

Rushing the sequel out like that would be a huge mistake. Learn from Iron Man 2 for god sakes.

Film makers need to take their time and do a really good sequel.

If it were already in production from last year that woulfd be different.

@swoooop
No offense swoooop, but at least Reeves probably knew how to spell "horse". LOL

@Everyone
Let's just point something out here, Reeves, at least to me is always going to be the one true Superman. See the perk of special effects being limited back then was that they had to focus on characterization for a movie like that to see. And Reeves mastered the hell out of that story. If he was in that monstrosity he would have made the film a thousand times more interesting. Cavill, a suppose great choice who I just want to point out got passed up for the role once, plays a very simplified version of the character. He only had to play one character with a five second time as Clark. To call him a great Superman is like saying Reynolds was a good Green Lantern. He doesn't embody the nature of the character that made Superman so...well super. Everyone is so damn focused on making sure this character was some big fighter, but in the process sacrificed a his somewhat pure goodness. I mean it was fine as an action movie as I have said, but come on people! They ripped off the exact storyline of Batman Begins. He is a guy who has a good childhood, loses a parent (Seriously make it even more like Batman why don't you?!), goes on a trek across the world as a loner even though he is actually from a well-groomed background, is trained by a wise man (Although granted in this case he is a ghost basically), he trains a little, and then has to prevent genocide (Batman Begins = fear gas, Man of Steel = alien armada) after first being hindered by the villain (BB = House destroyed, MOS = Held hostage). Then of course you have the random flashback at the end of the film to a touching moment with the father of each respective character. The only difference in the flow of this story is that much storytelling was sacrificed for unnecessary action in Man of Steel. Seriously, in any other version of Superman, Superman would have somehow led the bad guys away from innocent people. But no...let's make it where he has to kill Zod...which he never would have done in any interpretation but found a way to cast him into the phantom zone.

Again...GREAT ACTION movie...TERRIBLE SUPERMAN movie.

@mink
I think it's safe to say Reeves was Superman on and off the camera. Even after his accident he never stopped fighting. Dude even directed a movie crippled right before his death!

I know. I tend to accidently confuse their last name. It is weird that both who bore that last name suffered such horrible ends.
Deaft0ne writes:

Yeah it seems there may be some credence to a Superman curse because in addition to Reeves and Reeve, Dean Cain, Tom Welling, and Brandon Routh have basically no careers now either after playing the character.
Sleuth1989 writes:

Yeah although Routh did a nice little recurring part on the show "Chuck" as real *sshole of a character. Totally surprised me.
