"Man of Steel" Sets June Box Office Record with $113 MillionSubmit Comment
Warner Bros decided not to move forward with "Justice League" until it knew whether "Man of Steel" was going to be a hit. The results are now in and "Man of Steel" performed better than expected.

The studio was hoping to break the $100 million mark domestically, but "Man of Steel" took in $113.1 million over the weekend, bringing its worldwide debut to $196.7 million. The film cost $225 million to make.

"Man of Steel" was able to beat "Toy Story 3" ($110.3 million) to take the record for the biggest June opening. It also easily surpassed "Superman Returns," which earned $52 million during its opening weekend (also in June) on a budget of $275 million. Due to poor results, "Superman Returns" failed to give Warner Bros a boost to push forward with its bigger DC strategy.

"Man of Steel" currently has a 56% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes, but among fans, the film has a 82% rating. The opposite happened for "Superman Returns," which has a 75% fresh rating among critics and a 67% rating among fans.

Taking second place at the domestic box office is "This Is the End" comedy, starring James Franco, Jonah Hill and Seth Rogen. The new movie grossed $20.5 million over the weekend, bringing its five-day total to $32.8 million. Since it cost only $32 million to make, "This Is the End," which has a 85% fresh rating, is already considered a hit.

On the specialty side, Emma Watson's "The Bling Ring" was released in five theaters in New York and Los Angeles. The movie took in $210,000, for an impressive per-theater average of $42,000.

Good for it. "Too much action"...I think people heard that and ran to see it.

What's next for Cavill? Well for starters, lots more Superman, obviously, lol

I love how Alex thinks the opposite of 56/82% (rotten/fresh) is 75/67% (fresh/fresh).

Great movie(I still think that Batman Begin was Better)It was way better then Superman Return.
Can't wait for another Superman movie. Like with Brainiac,The Eradicator,Doomsday,Lex Luthor in The Lexorian supersuit. I hope that they were planning on building on this movie.

I wonder where the sequel will take place because they destroyed Metropolis, not to mention the hundreds that died during that battle.

Zod and Superman should have fought in Detroit. Not like anyone would have noticed. Or cared.

perhaps if the plot would be more exciting and plausible if The Purge took place every leap year for thirteen minutes

That doesn't seem that impressive to me. 113 million? I guess June is an off month. LOL
pornfly writes:

So the 56% were not fans?
If youre gonna put it that way then that doesnt seem so bad

I would think if they were fans then it would be 100%
Unless only 18% of Superman fans made it to the theatre
pornfly writes:

"Due to poor results, "Superman Returns" failed to give Warner Bros a boost to push forward with its bigger DC strategy."

I can't see how this is true considering Batman was not made with the DC universe in mind. There seemed no bigger 'strategy' when the Nolan films were created.

i like how they did flashbacks. of his child hood, of his teens, when his dad died. thats the way TASM should have been. instead of trying to retell and f*ck up the whole origin story
