Leonardo DiCaprio in Talks to Star in "Rasputin"

Leonardo DiCaprio in Talks to Star in "Rasputin"Submit Comment
Leonardo DiCaprio is in talks to star in "Rasputin," a historical biopic that Warner Bros is developing. The script is being written by Jason Hall, who is currently working on Steven Spielberg's "American Sniper" film.

In the early years of the 20th century, Rasputin was invited by Tsar Nicholas II to serve as a medical advisor to his hemophiliac son Alexei. Rumored to have manipulated the throne behind the scenes, Rasputin has been accused of using mysticism and the dark arts.

There have been numerous movies made about Rasputin and the controversial role he played in Russia, but there were new elements discovered by Hall that sparked DiCaprio's interest and gave psychological depth to Russia's "Mad Monk."

To his enemies, he was a charlatan who prolifically bedded women, possibly including the Tsar's wife. DiCaprio liked the complicated elements of a child who lost the better part of himself when his brother died, and was capable of kindness but also a ruthlessness. Rasputin, who earlier had survived being stabbed, was shot, strangled, shot again, all in one night, and finally drowned when thrown into the icy Neva River.

Rasputin was poisoned first but that didn't work then he got stabbed and then shot and his jealous enemies made sure to cut his d*ck off!

The best version I've seen is the one with Alan Rickman IMO. A must watch.

Rambo

DiCaprio was quite good for picking up the South African accent in Blood Diamond.

I thought Leo DC was taking a massively extended break from acting?

The role will once again involve Leo with grubby facial hair, being in a constant state of angst and agitation -- shouting and screaming and handwringing and, well, just losing his sh*t in every other scene.

@M. Bullitt
Alan Rickman did a spectacular job as that character. And yeah Leo got a lot of credit for doing a South African accent which apparently had never been imitated appropriately on film or something.

@Morbius
Every actor says they are taking a break and then end up signing on for a dozen movies. Every one doubts if they are tired with their job and then continue on. For actors...that doubt is made public. The TWO frikkin' seconds they have doubt is made public for all idiots to see and listen to. LOL

I wonder how much Rasputin weighed... uh, before he lost his manhood, of course.
Johnnie writes:

You know, I've said so many times that I think he cant do this part or that part, but 9 times out of 10 he proves me wrong. Leo is a fantastic actor, love him or hate him. I'm sure ill be watching this if it looks as good as it reads.
