Theater Owners Want Trailers Shorter and With Less Spoilers

Theater Owners Want Trailers Shorter and With Less SpoilersSubmit Comment
Even though theater owners don't make the movies or create the marketing campaigns to promote them, they are still forced to listen to the many complaints fans have about what they're seeing on screen.

The National Association of Theater Owners (NATO has now created a list of the top complaints and is asking movie studios to make some changes, primarily regarding the trailers that are being shown before theatrical releases.

MPAA guidelines states that most trailers must be 2 1/2 minutes long. NATO is asking that the rule is changed to make the trailer only 2 minutes long. The reason for the request is because fans complain that the trailers spoil too much of the plot while trying to squeeze in 2 1/2 minutes of exciting footage.

While it's possible that NATO is addressing complaints, some have pointed out that theaters charge studios to show their trailers. And by shortening the trailers, theaters can show more of them before a movie starts, which will result in more revenue.

NATO is also attempting to prevent studios from marketing movies that won't be released for at least four months, and for all trailers to have release dates.

It's not clear how any of this will prevent complaints or reduce spoilers, but studios are obviously not happy with these requests. The worry is that NATO will create its own standards and then begin rejecting trailers that don't fit those standards.

They will all be watched on YouTube ad nauseum anyways so who really gives a f*ck?

Given the massive amount of online marketing in most Western nations, and the ever-increasing price of tickets, even when adjusted for inflation, perhaps they should eliminate in entirety the trailers, adverts and commercials that appear in front of the films we pay to see.

An interesting observation: the organization threatening a de facto "trailer war" is named NATO.

Tanman you Silly Rabbit, even if they showed Jason Statham sidelining Han in the Fast 6 trailer you still would have seen it and give it 10 stars, lol.

Old news

Rob Liefeld wants Chris Pine to play him in an movie about how Liefeld became a comic book industry icon.

All this from the artist who can't draw stylized comic book feet.

Well, their arguments are sound. That's all I have to say. But the way their coming about it is too much, they need to step it down a little bit.

You're f*cking theater owners, if you even have a say, then it is so scarce, it couldn't even be considered minimal.

"After Earth is at 0 % at RT.

lol"

Yeah. But that's because there's barely 12 reviews, which actually brings it up to an 8%.

Let's wait on "lol"-ing until there's an actual respectable number of reviews and actual critics. Not a bunch of reviewers whose status is not unlike Pussman.
