"Fast and Furious 6" Easily Beats "The Hangover Part III" at Box Office

"Fast and Furious 6" Easily Beats "The Hangover Part III" at Box OfficeSubmit Comment
"Fast and Furious 6" is on its way to gross $122 million during the Memorial Day weekend, earning not only the best debut for a "Fast and Furious" opening, but the best opening out of any Universal Pictures movie.

"Fast and Furious 6" also earned the studio's biggest international opening, taking in $158 million, bringing the film's worldwide debut to $280 million. Since the sixth installment cost $160 million to make, the film is already profitable and easily justifies a seven installment. It has a 72% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes.

Meanwhile, "The Hangover Part III," the last installment in the franchise, also opened this weekend, but had to settle for second place with $53 million over the four-day weekend. The result is considered disappointing, since the second installment grossed $135 million during the same weekend in 2011.

Despite low numbers, the third film is still earned the second-best Memorial Day debut for an R-rated film, behind "The Hangover Part II." And since it cost $103 million to make, it's already on its way to becoming a hit for Warner Bros. It has a 21% fresh rating.

The other wide release of the weekend was the animated "Epic" movie, which took fourth place with a four-day debut of $44 million. It cost $100 million to make and has a 63% fresh rating.

On the specialty side, Richard Linklater's "Before Midnight" was released in five theaters, but still managed to gross $273,944, which is an impressive $54,789 per theater. It has a 97% fresh rating.

Vin Diesel said on Conan that the 7 installment will take place, among other locations, on the Great Wall of China. I don't think it's the best place for cars to be driven but whatever...

What stroke me was Vin Diesel's behaviour: the total opposite from his character Dom Toretto! To say the least he's very much in touch with his feminine side alright.
Rambo writes:

^funny,i never saw an interview with him before till that conan one you mentioned and now that I've seen him talk - he does look very gayish...either he is gay or as you said - just very connected to his feminine side.that red tight shirt doesn't help...

@Rambo

Lol, Indeed the red tight t-shirt didn't help.

They're not going to drive cars on the Great Wall of China, either in reality or fantasy. This is a global market now, and Universal isn't going to insult China by sh*tting on their greatest cultural monument. More likely some fight choreography.

And no wonder they went with Wan after Lin instead of a white guy.

Pandering. Pure f*cking pandering.

I just saw Fast 1 and 2, haven´t seen any of the other installments.

I tried to watched them sometimes but ended up doing nothing at all instead of watching them.

I don´t know.

Was actually pretty let down by this installment. The camera was too close to the action, there were a lot less shootouts than the last film, and the plot made even less sense than I used to in these silly movies. It was really a step backwards from Fast Five which, other than a couple of scenes, was for the most part a very believable action flick. This film pretty much throws reality out the window within the first 10 minutes of the film when the Rock proceeds to throw a huge bad guy around like football. For the rest of the film all reality is suspended as people fly around like birds and thousands of bullets never seem to hit there mark or do much damage when they do actually draw blood.

The action was better all around in Fast Five but so was the filmmaking in general. Everything was so forced in this macho soap opera, and the writing was thinner than usual. "This is what we do" or "this is who we are" over and over again is not a script. Tyrese was about the only interesting gem of the whole cast this time around where the Rock and most of the ensemble cast shined in the last film. The editing was choppy, the camera was shaky, and the plot made no sense. All around disappointing 5/10

Did anyone notice the part where The Rock was on his cell in the convoy and his facial hair magically vanished? Then it reappeared in then it reappeared in the next scene.

-then it reappeared, wtf. I didn't type that twice!

It's really funny that people talk about Vin being gay, but he has a wife and daughter that was born in 2008. It's totally an internet fabrication.

he's rich enough to buy a fake family to hide his homo until his career is rightfully over. which won't be until fast 10. (FasTen your seatbelts)
