Joss Whedon Still Plans to Use Quicksilver in "The Avengers 2"

Joss Whedon Still Plans to Use Quicksilver in "The Avengers 2"Submit Comment
Even though Joss Whedon is still working on the script for "The Avengers 2," he recently revealed that the plan is to introduce the brother/sister team of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch.

Then recently, director Bryan Singer announced that he will also use Quicksilver in "X-Men: Days of Future Past," which is a 20th Century Fox film. It turns out that both Fox and Marvel own the rights to Quicksilver, but just different parts of his story.

Many believe that Fox is attempting to hurt Marvel by using Quicksilver, but it turns out that Whedon has no plans to cut the character out of "The Avengers 2." During an appearance on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," he explained what he loves so much about the brother/sister superheroes.

"There are new characters [in 'The Avengers 2']. I already said that were going to have a brother/sister team, the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, who were great mainstays of The Avengers when I was reading the comics as a kid," he said. "Besides the fact that I grew up reading them, their powers are very visually interesting. One of the problems I had on the first one was everybody basically had punchy powers. [Quicksilver]s got super speed. [Scarlet] can cast spells and a little telekinesis, get inside your head. There's good stuff that they can do that will help keep it fresh."

He went on to say that the characters have yet to be cast. "We're doing that now," he added.

Fair enough, we will officially have two incarnations of the character. It's makes everything very tricky. Days of Future Past will likely openly talk about how a number of different alternate realities and timelines exist. It and The Avengers 2 having a character in common pretty much unofficially has a connecting thread between the two....who is to say that the MCU is not just one of the many possible alternate timelines to the X-Men films? One where mutants never show up and these other super-beings do?

It could very easily put Days of Future past and by extension, all of the other X-Men films in the same type of 'grey area' as Hulk 03 is, in terms of canon. Sure, Hulk 03 and TIH have inconsistencies regarding Banner's origins...but ultimately, at the end of both origins Banner winds up in South America...and the differences in the details don't exactly come into play in any significant way.

"..everybody basically had punchy powers"

A very eloquent analysis of the characters and their meta-human abilities.

Plus its true Black Widow Stripper and Bird-Eye definitely had too many 'punchy powers'.

Marvel's Flash. He's named after the element mercury, which isn't terribly quick, if you've ever taken apart a thermostat and rolled the mercury therein down an inclined plane...
