"Fast and Furious 6" Shattering UK Box Office Records

"Fast and Furious 6" Shattering UK Box Office RecordsSubmit Comment
"Fast and Furious 6" is set to hit US theaters on Friday (May 24th), but was already released in the UK, where it has been shattering records.

The film grossed $13.2 million during the opening weekend, becoming the highest-grossing Universal Pictures movie in the UK, surpassing "Les Miserables." The result is also the biggest debut for any "Fast and Furious" installment in the country.

"Fast Five" was released last year and went on to open to over $86 million in the US. It eventually grossed $626 million worldwide. If UK results are any indication, "Fast and Furious 6" will perform even better. The new movie currently has a 78% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes. "Fast and Furious 7" is already in the works.

Fast and Furious 6 is a fairly good action popcorn flick and I enjoyed it far more than Iron Man, Oblivion and Star Trek. Good to see people still have a taste for older school action flicks that don't depend on ridiculously expensive visuals, mopey emasculated characters and gay, teenage-looking "men" like Zachary Quinto.

will see it this weekend probably and post my judgment.

@Mink -- how did you see it? Are you in the UK?

Saw it last night here in UK, was awesome. is dumb as f*ck and laughable in places but is more enjoyable than both Iron Man 3 and Into Darkness. And The Rock owns it again.

Credits scene: YES

Series is going back to Tokyo next. Nice to see it come full circle. Diesel says it will be the beginning of a new trilogy. Losing Justin Lin will be hard to overcome after he breathed newfound life into the series. Hopefully Wan will respect the harder style of action and "vehicular warfare" Lin established and continues to impress. Tough act to follow though.

Reviews of Hangover 3 are saying it's a very nasty and cynical movie with excessive violence and barely any humor.

^ Agreed, although I found some of the "humor" scenes forced in and WTF was O'Connor and Mrs. O'Connor doing for over half the movie?

i saw this movie online and i can say it is a fun summer movie something we havn't had this year and you could even argue for last few years summer movies should be fun and require very little brain power to those films that are smart hey great but this one was just dumb fun

Making way for less white folks. Seriously. I read somewhere that was the intention of Universal: to make a more "diverse" cast and use less "American" locations so as to sell the franchise abroad to compete with all the other studios going international.

And yes, I saw a FF cam, but damn, that cam was almost DVD quality (when the camera wasn't bouncing around and out of focus).

"Making way for less white folks"

Precisely. Sadly, I'm not the one to coin the phrase, but by now this franchise is literally "Benetton ready". United Colors, ya'll.

As for @bigdaddy's "comic scenes forced" comment - they sure were. Why did they have vending machines in a rented supa-secret garage? Plus: Why is f*ckING LONDON so empty? Why does "Moscow scene" looks like it's shot anywhere but Moscow with Kremlin backgrounds added in post? etc. etc.

It was an ultimate dumb action flick (like Bad Boys II), but it didn't try to be anything it was not, embraced the genre cliches and was extremely well-shot (like Bad Boys II). Also it's basically the same as F5 but with a slightly higher budget.

Overall, it's a money well-spent in cinema and 5/5 stars on Bay-sh*tblowupeter (like Bad Boys II).

"Why did they have vending machines in a rented supa-secret garage?"

Because then The Rock couldn't shoot out its glass front, obviously...

"Plus: Why is f*ckING LONDON so empty?"

Lloyd's of London wouldn't provide the proper insurance? Probably something with to do with filming liability laws...

"Why does "Moscow scene" looks like it's shot anywhere but Moscow with Kremlin backgrounds added in post? etc. etc."

Because it was, IIRC. Hungary, I believe.

Good questions wasted on a very dumb but fun flick.

Kurskij writes:

^I should've included "IRONY" in my post.

Those questions were rhetorical.

But, sincerely, thx for taking the time to answer.

but they did shoot some backgrounds and aerial shots in Moscow with the help of local company. And the bridge where the aftermath of "Moscow attack" happened is located in London, I think.

loved it. number six in the franchise though. so why are folk bringing the movie down? i would say its better than most, if not all #6 in any franchise. plus its still raking in the money.
i red somewhere that folk dont like to pay money to "check their brain at the door"
dont go to the cinema then.

Huh. Thought the trend these days was to buy footage. Seems to be what they do most days when they need New York footage, but that is the US, not Russia. Maybe things are different over there...or they needed specific footage beyond establishing shots...

"Huh. Thought the trend these days was to buy footage. Seems to be what they do most days when they need New York footage, but that is the US, not Russia."

Basically, the same thing, but in case of Russia companies know they have a rapidly growing market & they get to establish some basic contacts with local companies. New "Jack Ryan" movie shot for about a week in Russia - backgrounds+est.shots+main cast.

Plus, with the market evolving so do local professionals and crew. Porsche Panameras equipped with filming "hands" for chase sequences are if not common, then deffinitely available.

That being said, we're still struggling to decent "blockbuster movies".

Nightwatch and Daywatch were decent. 9th Company was good.

Not so sure about this one though:
