Ron Howard and Brian Grazer to Use KickStarter for "Friday Night Lights" Movie

Ron Howard and Brian Grazer to Use KickStarter for "Friday Night Lights" MovieSubmit Comment
Two years ago, Peter Berg (Battleship, Hancock) confirmed that a new movie based on his "Friday Night Lights" TV series, which ended after five seasons, was in active development. The plan was to begin filming in 2012, but that never happened.

Then two months ago, Adrianne Palicki (GI Joe: Retaliation) revealed that there are talks of raising money for a "Friday Night Lights" movie through KickStarter in hopes of duplicating the results of "Veronica Mars."

And now, producer Brian Grazer confirmed that "Friday Night Lights" is in the works and that KickStarter will likely be used. The film would be made through Grazer's Imagine Entertainment company, which is co-owned by director Ron Howard. This once again raises the question of whether multi-millionaires should be asking fans to pay for films that these millionaires will profit from.

Someone start a Kickstarter fundraiser to have The Rock kick Ron Howard in the balls for making one boring assed film after another.

Umm...

...there was already a Friday Night Lights movie people. It's what the TV show was based off of. It came out in 2004 and starred Billy Bob Thornton:

@Phoenix Fire

The TV show was in no way related to the movie other than being about a small West Texas high school football team. Completely new characters, storylines, etc.

@velocity

Peter Berg directed the 04 movie and was the co-creator of the tv show and directed the pilot episode.

Both of them are based on the book.

I don't give a sh*t about any of these but please get your facts straight before saying something as stupid as "the movie and show aren't related in any way bro."

Dag nabbit opee. Your father would be ashamed of you.

This is like stealing a handicapped persons parking pass and using it to park up close so u dont have to walk far.

or like when alex uses articles from other news sources, with minimal changes and calls them his own and makes a ton of advertising money off of it.

If everybody started doing this the industry will fall apart.

How about if a movie uses kickstarter than the only money these people get are theyre paychecks up front. And all profits beyond that either go to charity or back into kickstarter to fund more projects.

lazy *sshole hollywood fudge covered d*cks fresh out of andy d*cks mouth.

@Deaftone

My facts are straight as I watched all 5 seasons of the tv show.

Peter Berg helped launch the show and directed the pilot, but beyond that, head writer and executive producer job went to Jason Katims. Berg got his name on the credits in the same way JJ Abrams did for getting LOST off the ground and directing the pilot. In both cases, involvement was minimal beyond the launch.

And I didn't say, "The movie and the show aren't related in anyway."

I said, "The TV show was in no way related to the movie other than being about a small West Texas high school football team." So I already qualified the statement with what you describe in your comment. They are both based on small town, West Texas football. They have no similarities beyond than that. Different characters, different storylines, different actors, etc.

There are enough morons on this ball of dirt who would be glad to give money to Hollywood big shots without expecting anything in return. They might as well invest in the Hollywood Stock Exchange.
