First Look: Christian Bale and Natalie Portman in Terrence MalickSubmit Comment
THR has unveiled the first official photo from the upcoming Terrence Malick movie "Knight of Cups," giving us a look at Christian Bale and Natalie Portman on a beach. Check it out below.

The film's plot has been kept a secret, but supposedly focuses on celebrities and their excessive lives of temptation. The rest of the cast includes Cate Blanchett, Antonio Banderas, Joel Kinnaman, Isabel Lucas, Imogen Poots and Wes Bentley.

Footage from "Knight of Cups" was recently shown to foreign distributors, but a release date has yet to be set. It's expected to hit theaters later this year.

"...focuses on celebrities and their excessive lives of temptation."

Interesting theme and I hope Terence Malick will go as far as he did in The Thin Red Line.

More boring wankery from Malick i'm sure.

Love Malick, but this sounds lame.

Christian Bale probably thought this said Dark Knight of Cups when he signed on, and now he's stuck.

Working on a Malik project must be the easiest payday in the world for a Hwood celebrity. You've got no lines to remember, you'll make millions to do mostly voiceover work, you'll be shooting some place beautiful, and no one will ever criticize your performance because no one will be conscious after the first 10 minutes of the film.

Man, this Malick guy is really started to make a bunch a movies in such a short while when before he would take YEARS OFF...

How does he do it? And why don't studios f*ck with him about the box office? Is he really that successful?
Stapes writes:

@celluloid, what Sac says is true, but Malick is pretty much a film genius, it's easy for *ssholes to tout his work and act like pretentious fart sniffers, but most of his work really it great on many levels.
minkowski writes:

Genius? How so? Every one of his films is nothing more than a silent vignette or montage set to moody, weepy music and someone off-screen rambling pretentiously like they're reciting existential profundity such as Maxwell's equations or the recipe for Keebler cookies.
Deaft0ne writes:

Only his first 3 films are any good. The Thin Red Line is in my top 10. But now he is just making visual sleeping pills. Far from a genius, more like pretentious as f*ck.
Stapes writes:

@mink, it's easy to parody any artist with such a definite identity, but that doesn't mean the artist's work is any less great. Malick's films range from the spectacular to the disasterous, but even his failures are Icacurian (sure that's a made up word) and I respect them for that.
minkowski writes:

Fair enough. To each his own. Not like you can prove scientifically Malick is or is not a genius anyway.
Stapes writes:

@mink, well I don't know Malick's IQ, but the guy was a Roads scholar.
Stapes writes:

Road, even.

Malick's movies bore the sh*t out of me, but I respect him as an artist.
