David Goyer Explains Why "Man of Steel" Wasn't Called "Superman"

David Goyer Explains Why "Man of Steel" WasnSubmit Comment
Empire magazine had the chance to sit down with "Man of Steel" writer David Goyer and asked him why the decision was made to not name the movie "Superman" or at least have the word in the title.

"We decided not to call it 'Superman,' that was very deliberate," he explained. "Chris [Nolan] and I [suggested] 'Man Of Steel,' and Warner Bros said, 'Why?' And we started talking about it, and we said, 'We want a line of demarcation in the sand between the old and the new.'"

He continued: "We always knew we would be using the Superman shield. But 'Man Of Steel' was also supposed to represent our take, which was he’s a man, but he's not made of flesh and blood. Metaphorically he's a man of steel."

Or how about the fact Bryan Singer was going to call his "Superman Returns" sequel that and you couldn't think of another title. I love Goyer's work. Great writer but come on now Goyer...this was a very lame explanation when I know for a fact "Man of Steel" was always going to be the title of the next Superman film since Singer brought the character back to the screen...cause really there was no other name to use that wouldn't sound ridiculous.

"Metaphorically he's a man of steel."

Well obviously but technically steel starts to melt at around 1510 degrees C (2750°F) so wasn't Superman on many occasions in a situation where the T° was far more than that melting point?

Is this a biography on Lexington Steele?
Deaft0ne writes:

@sleuth

Yeah Goyer is full of sh*t. Singer WAS going to call his sequel Man of Steel and also use General Zod. Jude Law was who he wanted and he wanted Carrie-Anne Moss for Ursa/Faora and and Kane from WWE as Non.

Nolan and Goyer didn't come up with jack sh*t.

I would have preferred Superman: Son of Krypton, since this is yet again, another origin story. And then the sequel Superman: Man of Steel

And you know what Goyer? A lot a people say, "taking a sh*t", but I say "taking the Browns to the Superbowl" and let me tell you why...

In other words, marketing.

Let's not bullsh*t bullsh*tters here everyone knows the real reason is because it's similar to the way Nolan called Batman The Dark Knight.

No, Man of Steel was the title for Bryan Singer's next movie after Superman Returns. Goyer/Nolan/WB/Snyder/Your Mom just kept the title.

http://www.slashfilm.com/bryan-singer-confirms-superman-man-of-steel-sequel-to-superman-returns/

That's from 2008 before Goyer/Nolan were involved at all.

This is from a Brainiac storyline that was being considered, still with the Man of Steel title:

http://screenrant.com/bryan-singer-superman-man-steel-brainiac-storyline-rob-91933/

David Goyer is simply lying. I have no idea why, he acts like google doesn't exist. He could just be honest and say, "yeah that was the title for several years, way before I got involved with the film."

Alex really should have noted this in this post instead of taking Goyer at his word. But that would require 5 minutes of actual research, which alex is extremely allergic to.
minkowski writes:

^^Yeah that sequel had Brainiac downloading into Superman's kid, who, I read, was to be killed off.

Also Goyer is even further retarded because it sounds like he is saying he invented 'Man of Steel'. Superman has been called this since the 1940s in the comics like Batman is also called The Caped Crusader or The Joker is called The Clown Prince of Crime or a vagina is called a p*ssy.

f*ck off, goyer.
minkowski writes:

Goyer is even more retarded than what you suggest, because he says THIS

but he's not made of flesh and blood. Metaphorically he's a man of steel.

He IS made of flesh and blood, and every f*cking Superman media since the 1940s had made it clear he IS a man, hence the man in Superman, not to mention Man of Steel, so if he isn't made of flesh, according to Goyer, of what is he made? Not steel, because Goyer the steel in Man of Steel is "metaphorical".

Maybe Superman is made of cotton candy, or used tampons. With Goyer running his idiotic mouth, who the f*ck can tell? I was never a fan of the man and his work anyway. Seems more luck than brains with this guy.
Deaft0ne writes:

^lol yeah exactly^

Blade:Trinity is a perfect example of what happens when this jackass is given free reign on a project.

Dominic Purcell wasn't bad as the OG Dracula but he's a good actor to begin with. Otherwise the movie was a f*cking mess and I side with Snipes on his story about how disastrous the production was.

Stephen Norrington and Guillermo Del Toro apparently had no issues with their directorial duties but goyer was like a monkey jacking off everywhere.

Goyer is the problem.

Because it sounded better than 'Man Who Wears his Underwear on the Outside'

Deaft0ne writes:

@Cannon

Superman's costume in this film eschews the traditional red trunks on the outside that Superman has had in the past, the redesigned costume has been known for well over a year now so your lame attempt at a joke regarding the title is not only incredibly stupid, but woefully out of date and misinformed.

Read the above posts regarding the history of the Man of Steel title. Goyer didn't come up with it.

Cool exposé DEAF
i wish there was a more public forum that would shine a light on what a douche Goyer is showing himself to be.

With all the 'fans' that site hails, havin that information in the article would have been pretty enlightening to alot of people

Oyea, give CANNON a lil slack, hmmmmmmmmmm????

@pornfly

lol I just can't stand inaccurate attempts at humor like what Cannon said. Everyone knows by now that Superman's costume in THIS movie has no red trunks worn on the outside.

Also Cannon's joke is indirectly supporting Goyer's blatant bullsh*t which is doubly annoying.

Maybe we should tweet the f*ck out of Goyer and call him on his bullsh*t.
Deaft0ne writes:

Because his disingenuous ass can't deny links to articles with that title from 5 f*ckING YEARS AGO

Ooh boy *waves hands sarcastically* you got me. Like I give a sh*t. Your lame attempt to pompously correct my lame joke makes you sound like some anal tax auditor. Why don't you just change your name to Buzz Killington.

Loser.
