"Iron Man 3" Opens to $195 Million Overseas, Bigger Than "The Avengers"Submit Comment
"Iron Man 3" is set to hit theaters domestically on Friday, May 3rd. But it was just released overseas and grossed a whopping $195.3 million from 42 territories, beating last year's highest-grossing film of the year, "The Avengers," which debut to $185.1 million internationally.

While early predictions put "Iron Man 3" on track to barely beat the box office results of "Iron Man 2," experts are now saying that the film is performing more like "The Avengers." "Iron Man 2" debut to $100 million internationally in 2010.

"To say we are beyond encouraged is an understatement," said Disney, which didn't want to speculate whether "Iron Man 3" can reach the level of "The Avengers." But since the film is shattering a number of foreign records, the studio is hopeful that the result will be spectacular.

"Iron Man 3" currently has an impressive RottenTomatoes rating of 92%.

Anything could smash The Dark Knight - f*ck, Oogieloves could have if it was appealing to more mentally retarded children.

Iron Man 3 might smash, but I don't thing IR3 can smash the Man of Steel movie. On opening day here in Metro Manila, throngs of people flocked to see Iron Man from the noon to the Last full show. Now I would imagine the same scenario happening to Man of Steel.

wow....call me surprised. And without 3D to boost the # right?

How many 3D capable theaters do they have overseas compared to here in the States?
KillerSniper45 writes:

@Mink: Depends of the country that you are taking about. In the Philippines, there are about 40% that have this 3d format. Some has 2D format, which is watchable but the price is a bit high.

^^^Hmm. Interesting. I'd like to see the math per country, 2D versus 3D in sales, collated, compared to the US and similar.

Fantastic film, great villain, very satisfying conclusion, leaving it here would be ideal. Shane Black delivered.

In my town the best theater has 10 screens, and 9 of them were showing this, all of them sold-out at 6pm, it was an executive's wet dream came true.
