Don Cheadle Reveals Story Details for Potential War Machine Spin-Off

Don Cheadle Reveals Story Details for Potential War Machine Spin-OffSubmit Comment
While promoting "Iron Man 3," Don Cheadle spoke about a War Machine spin-off, stating that he's discussed it with Marvel and they are trying to figure out how to build a film franchise around the character.

"When we have talked about the [War Machine] spin-off, what the departure point might be for War Machine," he explained. "[We've discussed that] it might be when he goes rogue and takes a mission that he believes he is morally responsible for, but is against policy, and does it anyway."

Cheadle continued: "What happens when he's out there and he's been dishonorably discharged but he still has the suit, or Tony makes him another suit? And now he's out there on his own too, but even worse than Tony, because now he's a fugitive. Because if we wanted to do it, I think the best way to do it would be go darker, to take it and make it even more visceral. Close to the first 'Iron Man,' how it began. Really visceral and really realistic."

Too weak of a protagonist for a big budget action hero movie.

This will flop into an unholy demise, just like John Carter. Well, if it ever sees past development.

If Cheadle was leading man material, he'd had a load of movies by now. He's not so.....

I call bullsh*t on this.

Cheadle somehow manages to be an even more dull and uninteresting Marvel hero than Ben Affleck was.

He has the charisma of an old chair.

Kind of tired of another "iron man" being around. One is enough and it must be RDJ as Tony Stark no matter the cost. I was glad War Machine wasn't in The Avengers and hope he's not in The Avengers 2 as well. And if an Iron Man 4 comes out(praying there would be even though theres no God lol) they should leave out War Machine/Iron Patriot and just keep Cheadle as Rhoady.

just had an idea dident downey black up for tropic thunder maybe they get rid of don and black up downey as rody and we got three war machine movies with downey. just an idea!!

they should and eventually will stop making these movies while they are "ahead". if they spin this off, they might get compelled to have Downey or the others involved somehow and I think they TOO will start to say no. They have said on THIS site that this is the last Iron Man! if they didn't make another sequel to any of them and no spinoffs and just made Avengers every 2 years like Fast Five 6-9, it would be enough because of this reason: How does one sequel story get told without any of the other super heroes getting involved seeing as they have now met in the Avengers? I am still finding it hard to believe that Iron Man goes thru all this sh*t in part 3 and no other Avenger sees what's happening? they should seriously quit while they are "ahead"

@donangel01: If you read the comics, Heroes go through crisis all the time, often without other heroes help, mostly because they have their own issues.

I also hope they end with the main heroes (Cap, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man) after Avengers 2, and go on the more second tier heroes, like Black Panther, Heroes for Hire, Doctor Strange, Nova, Captain Marvel, Morbius the Living Vampire (may be tied up to Sony though), and even see a Hawkeye-Black Widow movie.
