Disney Cut Tony Stark's Alcoholism Out of "Iron Man 3"

Disney Cut Tony StarkSubmit Comment
While promoting "Iron Man 3," director Shane Black and writer Drew Pearce revealed that Tony Stark's alcoholism, based on the "Demon in a Bottle" storyline from the comics, was part of the original script, but Marvel request that anything regarding Tony's drinking problems would be removed.

"We were told by the studio that we should probably paint Tony Stark as being kind of an industrialist and a crazy guy, or even a bad guy at some points, but him being an alcoholic wouldn't really fly," said Black. "I don't blame [them for] that."

Pearce added: "Alcoholism is a massive problem but it's also not the best villain for a movie."

While Black would have liked to mention the "Demon in a Bottle" storyline, he believes that there's still a possibility that we may see it examined in a future "Iron Man" installment. "I wouldn't be surprised if at some point someone wanted to make a movie and they'd run out of directions for the character, then they've still got 'Demon in a Bottle.'"

Glad, it overshot Iron Man 2. I cannot recall it being of any issue in Avengers.

Eh, they already did it in IRON MAN 2 anyway. No point in doing it in the third sequel.

O well still looks better than part 2.

Are you f*cking serious? How is this character supposed to be 3D as appose to the most boring Marvel character ever?!
f*ck you, Disney. It's times like this where I end up wanting a Justice League movie.

It was completely wasted in the second one. It could make for great drama if they'd f*cking take seriously and utilize the issue well.

There is a post-credits scene where Tony Stark tries to complete a Ship In A Bottle though.

to me, i personally would love to see the Demon in the Bottle storyline, they should put it into Iron Man 4, it be a good story but just dont have it last throughout the whole movie, it will ruin it lol

No drunks in Iron Man 3, but at least one drunk was involved in writing this article.

Good job, Beavis.

As for the news, good idea. The villain is f*cking the Mandarin, not booze. One hero, one villain. Keep it simple.

I just wanted to see Stark in a wife beater going upside Pepper's head with a fifth of Jack.

I honestly don't think the movie will need it, I think it will be pretty good without it.

They can save it for the future when there's not as serious a villain as the Mandarin. Tony will have his hands full anyway. No need to jam more crap in there. Also, as was mentioned, they went into it a little bit in #2, no need to do it in consecutive movies.

I am with rocksteady, its like your franchise has grossed billions of dollars, and you can't trust the artists that you have put in charge of this project, to make your 4th installment with enough trust to use Alcoholism in a tactful way and build character. I mean this is the barrier that Disney puts in place, and I think its funny cause they clearly put the go ahead on a bunch of dark themes in countless Pixar movies, but they don't even want to be bothered for one moment with some "Moms against Tony Stark drinking even if it turns out that he recognizes his own errors by the end of the film coalition."

Taking alcoholism out of IM3 but they were ok with IM2 being one big never-ending coke party? I seriously thought the IM2 DVD would come equipped with a dish, a straw, and an 8ball.
