Wayfare Entertainment is moving forward with its upcoming "Passengers" sci-fi film by hiring Brian Kirk ("Game of Thrones," "Boardwalk Empire") to direct, making his feature film debut. Keanu Reeves (The Matrix) is on board to star.

The story follows a spacecraft transporting thousands of people to a distant colony planet that has a malfunction in one of its sleep chambers. As a result, a single passenger (Reeves) is awakened 90 years before anyone else. Faced with the prospect of growing old and dying alone, he eventually decides to wake up a second passenger, marking the beginning of what becomes a unique love story.

The script is written by Jon Spaihts, who wrote the original screenplay for "Prometheus." The second passenger, a female, has yet to be cast.

The story sound ok, but casting Reeves was not an intelligent decision.

Cool. Maybe someone there will appreciate his "acting".

Nope. this film will bomb, due to Reeves casting.

What? No news on his directing debut of THE MAN OF TAI CHI, or something like that...

On another note, I tried reading Reeves bio on the internet...damn, I got depressed. Dad left him when he was 3, raised by grandparents with multiple step dads, moved from school to school, fiancee delivered a stillborn before dying in a car accident, best friend died from drug overdose (River Phoenix). His life is more bleak than a British drama...

BTW, the guy is always dumped on his acting, but he was a theatre trained actor, believe it or not...Shslespeare no less...

Not even Nicolas Cage is theatre trained.

Perhaps it would take living on another planet for Keanu to "face the prospect of growing old", because one thing you've gotta give the son of a bitch: he doesn't appear to be aging at all here on Earth.

Whoa...

I just looked him up on Wikipedia. His entry's first paragraph seems like it came out of the Bizarro World, with a New York Times critic praising him for his "versatility" ("[he] displays considerable discipline and range") and another critic claiming that he was "one of the top three Hamlets" said critic had seen. All that's missing is a third critic acclaiming Keanu for his strong command of accents and then pointing to Devil's Advocate and Bram Stoker's Dracula as evidence.

Hugo Weaving, the actor who portrayed the arch-nemesis of Keanu's most famous character, has returned to the role of Agent Smith... in a television commercial.

He's going to wake up another passenger to share his fate with him? What a d*ck. I hope that chick jams a spike in his skull five minutes after waking up. d*ck.

Surely they have lube and kleenex on that ship. That's all you need, Keanu. Those sleep chambers are probably transparent, so you can unload all over the chamber of a sleeping hottie and never have to wake her up. Wake up a goddamn dog if you want companionship.
