Neil Jordan, the man who brought us "Interview with the Vampire," is now back with another vampire film, called "Byzantium," starring Saoirse Ronan and Gemma Arterton. And today, we have a new international trailer for the film, which will hit theaters on June 28th. Check it out below.
Plot: On the run for murder, two young "sisters" arrive penniless at an English seaside town. Clara (Arterton) is a fiercely modern woman who has her eyes on the future and no time for the past. Teenager Eleanor (Ronan) is shy and innocent. Yet, they both hide the same secrets: They are really mother and daughter, and they are both... vampires!
Eleanor is exhausted by 200 years on the run and desperate to settle down. But little does she know that her mother has been protecting her all of the years from their own kind, "The Brotherhood." To escape them, they must either blend in or continue running away. But just as they think they may have escaped, their past rapidly catches up with them.
Finally. Iíve been looking forward to this for some time. I was worried that it slid off the map, never to be properly released here in the states (paging Solomon Kane), which makes me all the happier that itís getting a summer release, no less.
I know most will be quick to dismiss it as more vampire bullsh*t ŗ la Twilight, which is understandable, as the trailer does its best to market the film in that direction. But Neil Jordan was always classier and more sophisticated with sexual-subtextual themes in films like The Company of Wolves and Interview with a Vampire. He can also make a real vampire film with some stylish gore.
