Tom Cruise to Fight Aliens in "Yukikaze" Sci-Fi FilmSubmit Comment
Tom Cruise has signed on for another sci-fi films, called "Yukikaze," which is an adaptation of a series of Japanese novels by Chohei Kambayashi. The novels were previously adapted into five award-winning direct-to-video anime movies.

The story revolves around a planetary defense force that beats back an invasion of aliens using a wormhole over Antarctica, setting up bases on the aliens' planet. Yukikaze is the name of the advanced reconnaissance fighter plane the hero uses on his missions.

Cruise has two other sci-fi films ready for release. "Oblivion" will hit theaters this Friday (April 19th) and "All You Need is Kill" will follow on March 4th, 2014.

It was said few months ago that Cruise, as a good scientologist, his mission in his life was to chase away the alien spirit that inhabits some people. Well he does take his job very seriously.

@IP: Been reading mediocre reviews of Oblivion all morning. Most critics says its beautiful but feels like its been Frankenstiened to life using the severed parts of every other sci-fi film ever made. Sound like you weren't impressed either. Too bad, I've been looking forward to that one.

Is that suppose to be a sequel to The Last Samurai?

just by watching the trailer of oblivion,I knew it was sh*t.and it was.WHy else would oblivion be released overseas first like BATTLESHIP?
Kurskij writes:

^Because in a couple of weeks Iron Man 3 premieres and destroys everything. Same with Battleship/Avengers.

Didn't understand all the hate aimed at Battleship btw. It was cheesy, over the top and completely implausible. But hey, it's based on a f*cking board game.

But it was also a good bit of fun and I liked that they included veterans in it - Missouri introduction was badass in a HOORAH Michael Bay-in his rock days kind of way. It doesn't deserve the hate, IMHO.

Oblivion was very impressive visually, Kosinski is an undeniable visionary, but so far lacks in story department. Cruise was solid as always. The story was cannibalised from lots of other, superior films. But it was worth a ticket price.

And I liked that they used a lot of practical effects.

all of those young actors in Battleship couldnt carry a movie by themselves.It felt like a high budget Scifi movie flick.that's probably Neeson's worst performance.

and RIHANNA are you f*cking kidding me??

interesting that the futuristic 'yukikaze' plane pictured above looks an awful lot like an F15. which was designed in 1967.

Agree, absolutely. But my points still stand.

It was, for me, a good bit of mindless fun. It had all the best and worst bits of modern Hwood vision of summer blockbuster - insane VFX, it-boys and girls (btw I'm in the minority of those who think that Kitsch might have a future - albeit in character roles, not as an a-list leading man) in leading roles and, in this case, a couple of good hoorah sequences - if I was american I'd probably have been very proud of such representation of disabled vets of recent wars and veterans of conflicts long forgotten.

It was a movie well aware of its status, it didn't pretend to be anything but cinema rollercoaster. Sometimes in succeeded, sometimes it failed, but in my case it kept me entertained for most of its running time.

Unlike, say, much-hyped Dark Knight Rises, which, for me, delievered very little on its promises.

Once again - just my opinion.

@sac

it has 63% at RT so some critics did enjoy it...for me the movie felt too slow,boring and badly written - but maybe you'll like it.

@SAC

Saw it yesterday in theaters and I can agree with Kurskij's opinion.

*SPOILER*

The evil character in the movie made me think about HAL from '2001: a space odyssey', which is obviously a plus.

The title is spelled wrong, Tom Cruise's new film is actually called "Yukrazy".

Battleship was garbage. Can't believe anyone would bother defending that absurd pile of rubbish.

Casting was sh*t, acting was sh*t, the premise and concept was sh*t, the execution was preposterous, and they stole all the VFX, SFX and music from Transformers.

As for this, Top Gun in space with aliens. No Kilmer. No thanks.
