"Saw" Director James Wan to Direct "Fast and Furious 7"

"Saw" Director James Wan to Direct "Fast and Furious 7"Submit Comment
Last week, Justin Lin said that he will not return to direct "Fast and Furious 7," despite helming the last four installments in the franchise. His concern was that Universal Pictures was rushing the seventh film into production in order to have it ready to be released next summer.

As a result, Universal immediately got to work searching for Lin's replacement. And now comes word that James Wan, who's known for such horror films as "Saw," "Insidious" and the upcoming "The Conjuring," has signed on. Lin took to Twitter to express his excitement, writing: "Vroom Vrooom..."

Hiring Wan is a bit of a surprise, since he doesn't have much experience with action films. And since he has almost no time before production begins, he'll have to be a fast learner.

They hire another asian guy with a three letter last name. I guess Hollywood thinks all Asian dudes are interchangeable.

I'm assuming we're going to have at least one 10 minute torture scene.

^^What boogie said

Actually, I'm surprised they didn't hire the Asian dude who makes dance movies. He made a Glee movie and is currently raping the Mortal Kombat property.

@Dynamite

All the Fast and Furious movies are torture to watch so that probably makes sense.

Don't forget the guy directed 'Death Sentence' and while it was more of a thriller, it contained a few big action sequences. Underrated in my opinion

Hopefully it'll be the last one.

Truer words have never been spoken, Avirex.

Uh...the guy does have experience with action scenes. Death Sentence has an action scene that I remember fondly to this day.

Good for Wan. I think he is a great director.

I might actually see this one if he can get Tobin Bell in this as some creepy weird crime lord.

They should put torture devices in the Luxembourg cinemas.

Loved the uncut action sequence in the parking garage in Death Sentence. Don't like the rush but i'll give Wan a chance. Maybe the dude has been wanting the job for a while now and has great ideas for the series already. He's got big shoes to fill, Lin has been awesome so far.

He's an Aussie, so naturally he'll make it awesome.... Still, hate to see Lin go..

This movie is too rushed and will suck big time

I wish him luck. He'll most likely need some. I like James Wan, he's a brilliant horror director.

I generally have no respect for chinks, but Mr Wan is awesome, I enjoy his work and hope this kicks ass, BUT he could add an element of horror to this.
minkowski writes:

Yeah, to all the conspiracists and naysayers: Wan is better than thirty other morons they'd be in a hurry to hire, and after his range on horror, I'd like to see what he can do with respect to the action genre.

this is actually not terrible news, now that I or anyone else sits about waiting for Fast and Furious news.

Gotta be honest, everyone gives this series a bad wrap... but imo the fifth movie was better than 90% of action movies coming out today.
