Martin Scorsese and Ray Liotta have re-united on a new project. Unfortunately, it's for a terrible low-budget web-series, called "Campus Life," which just released a trailer and features Scorsese as a doctor and Liotta as a bartender. Check it out below.
The big question is why Scorsese and Liotta decided to be part of this, and it turns out that it's a bit of a mystery. While "Campus Life" was still in production, many reports claimed that Scorsese's daughter Catherine was actually co-directing the web-series. But if you look at the trailer or IMDB, her name is missing.
It's possible that Catherine shot the thing and then decided she no longer wants to be part of it. But it's was too late for Scorsese and Liotta, who she likely convinced to make an appearance in "Campus Life" and are now being used to promote the series.
It never backfires. If a freshman actor's project goes south, his/her well-connected, earlier-generation Hollywood benefactors just chalk it up to inexperience then pull more strings to have another project bankrolled and give the kid another shot. And another. And another and another, until eventually they've the moviegoing public becomes so exasperated by their pervasive imposition that we give into their demands for endearment and they become a mainstay of the silver screen. Ben Stiller, Jennifer Aniston, Will Smith's kids, roughly half of the Coppola clan? We're stuck with all of them.
Nepotism doesn't backfire in Hollywood. It eats at you until it breaks down your last shred of judicious conviction. Nepotism makes people forget how good film and television were before the arrival of so-and-so's leech of a kid and gradually deludes them into thinking that film/TV would be nothing without the presence of mommy & daddy's little darling.
And if you think I'm wrong, then I ask you: in the unlikely event "After Earth" bombs at the box office this summer, do you honestly expect NOT to see another vehicle tailored around Jaden Smith? I mean, seriously...?
Nepotism's a fine word, but I'd have to say my favorite "-ism" is "jism." It really leaves a mark on those around me.

Ha. Chronicle plus Lost, made by retarded, untalented college kids, and directed by Martin's clueless daughter.
She should do porn instead.
"Looks cheap and boring for something that involves Scorsese."
Nah. It's all about him giving his daughter a send-up, the only kind of send-up wealthy, connected, famous people can give their kid.
Funny how evolution has been inverted. In evolution, in natural selection, the most successful creatures, within their given ecological niche, are the most prolific procreators. In wealthy Western societies, the most successful often don't even have children at all, perhaps one token offspring to carry the cash to the bank after their parents have died, but more often than not, they buy a Pomeranian instead.
Mankind sure has turned the blind watchmaker right on his f*cking head.
lol I saw Evil Dead this weekend at the local Regal cinema with some friends and the first look crap that plays before the trailers had an After Earth thing and it went on for like 10 minutes and they NEVER mention or show M. Night Shyamalan at all.
The studio is so scared sh*tless about showing him due to the absolutely embarrassing sh*ttiness of his last 5 films negatively affecting the box office of AFTA URF that they have hidden him from all promotional material.
@Bando. Liotta was damn good in KILLING THEM SOFTLY
@Deaft. Yeah, the studio knows his name no longer has any weight to it. If people hear SHAMALAMADINGDONG in the ads, it will affect a film negatively. He's starting to remind me of John Carpenter. He had a good run, his name was used to "sell" a movie, but turd after turd left him an outcast. This is it for M. Night. If this is a commercial and critical failure, he's going to find himself further to the outside looking in.
Thanks Alex I wasn't really sure how the Oscars work and if you want to to be a snippy twat you should know that a web series and a tv series are two different things (hence the name) plus the site still crashes every other day!
