"Jack the Giant Slayer" Lost $140 Million for Warner Bros

"Jack the Giant Slayer" Lost $140 Million for Warner BrosSubmit Comment
Four weeks after Warner Bros released Bryan Singer's "Jack the Giant Slayer," the studio has revealed that it lost between $125 million and $140 million on the movie. That's a bigger loss than Universal Pictures' "Battleship," but much less than Disney's "John Carter."

"Jack the Giant Slayer" cost around $200 million to make and had a marketing campaign that resulted in an expense of over $100 million. The film ended up grossing around $158 million worldwide.

"Jack" only grossed $65 million domestically, which meant that most of the revenue would have to come from overseas. Unfortunately for Warner Bros, it had strong competition from "Oz The Great and Powerful" and "GI Joe: Retaliation."

While studios are never happy to take such a big loss, Warner Bros will likely make some of that money back with "Man of Steel" and "The Hangover Part III." Plus, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" recently crossed the $1 billion mark.

Shouldve been geared towards a younger audience
Maybe with Mcdonalds/BurgerKing
Also, showing too much of the giants in the commercials left little to the imagination

They could still bring it around with a good dvd campaign but its been written off already, theyll show one commercial on Dvd Tuesday and thatll be it.

We all know even if a movie sucks as long as the ad campaign is done right it could still pull in some half-way decent numbers

A gazillion dollar movie studio lost some money, the amount of which I'll surely never see in my own life.

Boo motherf*ckin' hoo.

Much too early to say so. The movie is still in its release schedule since it is not released everywhere yet and in some countries it's just released like today. Sounds like I actually care. I don't 'cos Warner deserves it for luring Singer away from Fox' X-Men for the second time.

How stupid have the studios become when they dont recognize such an obvious flop as Jack the giant piece of sh*t. Singer had his brief moment of success with his x-men adaptations and of course now we all see that others can make those adaptations better: Iron man, Spiderman and even Watchmen and Sin City. And lets not forget Avengers. Singer's new x-men will be an epic fail and that will be the story of Singer.

I also love the contrasting picture WP chose here:

"We suck!"

Haha, Jack and the Giant Slayer pulled a John Carter. Bawhahahahaha!

Now all I need is for the new X-Men movie to bomb (it won't), and that'll be the end of Singer making any more big-budget boring yarns.

f*cker made one movie that truly wowed the audience and has been coasting off the fading fame and acclaim ever since.

And yeah, I'm quite aware the f*cker made X-Men 1 and 2, but imo they really sucked.

Ebert died?! When the hell did that happen?!
PapaEugene writes:

That's what happens when you spend hundreds of millions of dollars making a movie where your main draw is the young, hip, attractive male lead nobody's heard of in hopes of titillating teenage girls. What a waste.

Seriously? No Ebert news yet? Surely TMZ has covered it by now.

I'm talking career wise! I just wanna have that on record.
