Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" Assistant Says "Room 237" is "Pure Gibberish"

Stanley Kubrick's 1980 "The Shining" horror film has been at the center of plenty of conspiracy theories, with many claiming that the movie is about the slaughter of American Indians or about the Holocaust or Kubrick's apology for his role in helping fake the moon landing.

On Friday, Rodney Ascher released his "Room 237" documentary that features "experts" explaining why some of those theories are correct. We've seen lots of cool marketing for the movie, and now we have a review by Leon Vitali, who was Kubrick's personal assistant during the making of "The Shining."

"I was falling about laughing most of the time. There are ideas espoused in the movie that I know to be total balderdash," he said.

Vitali commented on theory about the Minotaur poster in the movie, with "Room 237" claiming that it's a clue that "The Shining" is a retelling of the Greek myth about a being that's part man, part bull. "That astonished me," he said. "It's a downhill skier. It's a downhill skier. It's not a Minotaur."

He also said that there are no Holocaust references, even though "Room 237" has lots of theories about the German-made Adler typewriter that Jack Nicholson uses. "That was Stanley's typewriter," said Vitali. "A lot of decisions made on the set were about pragmatism: 'This looks good. It sits on the oak table perfectly.' Not to mention, it's a great typewriter. I used that typewriter for 10 years, actually."

But what about Danny's sweater that shows the Apollo 11 rocket? That must have been put into the movie because of the faked moon-landing. "Stanley wanted something that looked handmade, and [costume designer] Milena [Canonero] arrived on the set one day and said, 'How about this?' It was just the sort of thing that a kid that age would have liked."

In the end, Vitali said that Kubrick would have though that "Room 237" is "pure gibberish."

jay weidner is a occult research genius kubricks odyssey should been seen for anybody interested in the moon landings, the reason kubrick was a recluse was because he was paranoid that he was going to be wacked by the cia for spilling the beans in the shining and eyes wide shut was the last straw the real cut of that film will never be seen because it shows the elite sc*m bags for what they are devil worshipers into human sacrfice thats why he was killed before the films release so his cut could never be seen, and proof he was murdered i.e sacrficed it was 666 days before the year 2001 the same as his iconic film 2001. check this sh*t out it real interesting be open minded and it will freak you out. cheers dudes

The conspiracy twits are always reaching. To the point it makes them even worse than English majors (not everything in a book means something deep and powerful. Get over it kids.) But what can you do.

Balderdash?! Who talks like that anymore?!

That jive turkey should update his expressions!!

Rodney Ascher needs to get a room with Richard Hoagland, which then needs to get hit with a f*cking Cruise missile. f*cking idiots.

Holy sh*t what an idiot. The movie isn't trying to prove any of these theories correct. The point is that its fascinating how many fan theories have popped up around The Shining and the doc*mentary simply sets out to explore those theories.

This guy is just an *sshole trying to get his name in the news.

Yeah that movie lost me with the whole boner with the paper tray. Some thimgs were interesting but 99% of it was just rediculous conspiracy theories
