"The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" Underperforms in Theaters, "Spring Breakers" is a Huge Hit

"The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" Underperforms in Theaters, "Spring Breakers" is a Huge HitSubmit Comment
"The Incredible Burt Wonderstone," starring Steve Carell and Jim Carrey, was a big disappointment at the box office. The new comedy grossed only $10 million, which put it in third place at the domestic box office. But since the film cost only $30 million, it will likely become profitable. It has a 39% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes.

"We've had had a rough start to the year, but we'll turn things around," said Warner Bros. "The budget for Burt Wonderstone was reasonable, but unfortunately the film didn't work. It wasn't for lack of trying."

The other new wide release of the weekend was Halle Berry's "The Call" thriller, which was able to beat "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" despite being released in 600 less theaters. "The Call" landed in second place with $17.1 million. Since it cost only $13 million to make, it's already considered profitable. "The Call" has a 40% fresh rating.

"Oz The Great and Powerful" took first place again with another $42.2 million for a new worldwide total of $281.8 million.

Meanwhile, "Spring Breakers," starring James Franco, Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez, opened in only three theaters. The film grossed $270,000, which is $90,000 per theater, one of the best results of all time. The $2 million "Spring Breakers" expands on March 22nd. And while it will certainly become profitable, there are big marketing challenges ahead. The new movie has a 70% fresh rating.

The boring doldrums of Feb-March movies.

Yeah I know. Where's James Holmes to spice things up when you need him?

James Holmes is a hero in certain circles.

As for this, Two washed up funny men, no wonder it under performed.

Hah! I'm not surprised at all. Just watching the trailer made my IQ lower. Burt will be at the video store for 99 cents in about a month.

Like DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS, THE INCREDIBLE BURT WONDERSTONE had a great premise, but lame plot/ writing...I'm guessing.

Shame...

I was really rooting for them...

Steve Carell and Seth Rogan should give each other AIDS and die.

Yeah, Carrell/ Rogen have not really surpassed their 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN comedy level, IMO.

40 Year Old Virgin was Rogen and Carrell's career high-water mark? OUCH!

Jim certainly c*nt. The man open's his goofy mouth and nothing but insane crap spews out. The only thing this rubbery looking turd has done that is actually good , his small performances on In Living Color along with Ace Ventura Pet Detective.

Steve Carrell is just a popular geek. He should not be the star of films, just the sh*thole everyone takes a dump in. He is to be teased and made fun of, nothing more. He is a c*nt also but not as much as Jim Carrey is.

Carrey acts funny with crazy, out there mannerisms...the problem is, you need someone to bring him back and regulate what's actually funny and what's too over-the-top. That was his problem on ME, MYSELF, AND IRENE. If only Farrellys could've pull the reins now and again, that movie would've been AWESOME!!

Carrell is only as funny as the writing...he is a pretty good comedic actor. He inputs as a writer such as in the 40 year virgin, but nowadays just wants to work..

Righteous Mink...truly righteous.

BTW Kid Rock's American Badass beat is a remix of Sad but True...anyways...

About the Holmes topic, indeed, on second thoughts I got to the conclusion of how boring and uninteresting the last half hour of The Dark Knight was, it was you a keep going film.

And as for the Rising sequel, a huge crumbling pile of crap it is, and for the record I saw it 2 times.

Anyway, I recently saw Dumb and Dumber, well, funny enough to keep what it, for certain moments.

As for the Sad but True stuff, people now doesn't even know how to steal from others, I wont even dare to mention how to take inspiration from resourceful material. Like the Massive attack song with the voice of that chick, song name "Dissolved Girl" is the song Neo is listening before awaking when receiving the message into his computer.

As how the song says 'Shame! Such a Shame'

This guys approaching from Braudillard and The Divine Invasion from K. D-ick.

@Cell - without a doubt: 40 year-old, was their high-point. Such a funny movie. Crap ever since.
CelluloidMan writes:

Actually Ranger, the script was by Apatow & Carrell...the rest of the cast ad libbed the rest making it gut busting funny...

FYI the unrated version is better, much funnier...even the deleted gag reel is hilarious.

The one that stole every f*cking scene was Romany Malco (Jay in the film)...he's been misused in various comedies since like BLADES OF GLORY, BABY MAMA, and the THE LOVE GURU...

Good thing he has his music career to fall back on. He's actually the one that raps as the cat in Paula Abdul's "Opposites Attract"....who knew?
