"Oz The Great and Powerful" Sequel Already in the Works

"Oz The Great and Powerful" Sequel Already in the WorksSubmit Comment
"Oz The Great and Powerful" was released in theaters today (Friday), but we won't know how it performed at the box office until Sunday. Despite having a budget of over $200 million and a 56% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes, Disney has decided to move forward with a sequel.

The studio believes that "Oz" will be able to bring in between $80 million and $90 million during the opening weekend. If that happens, that will put the film on track to make back its massive budget.

But whatever happens, Mitchell Kapner (Oz The Great and Powerful, The Whole Nine Yards) has already been hired to write the sequel, which would once again follow the adventures of Oz (James Franco).

The Wizard of CGI. Seems like an insult to the original to me...

Well according to Mr. Putman (a.k.a worst critic ever) Frank Baum would be "immensely pleased".

Yeah well, I just had breakfast, so I too have another giant sh*t in the works.

Should have gone with PRACTICAL effects instead of that technicolor CGI bullsh*t palette they used, but then I haven't seen the movie yet so maybe it's better than people are saying. I do like Sam Riami, but dunno if he was the right guy to do an OZ movie. Should have been Burton, but I've said that previously.

"Well according to Mr. Putman (a.k.a worst critic ever) Frank Baum would be "immensely pleased"."

Clearly you didn't read Putnam's entire review, then, since you're quoting its very last line; but that's quite alright: I skipped immediately to the end too.

@mink- Burton? Really? After the wholly uninspired Alice I would avoid the guy.

Never saw Alice, but if anyone can paint a canvas with the creepy look of Wizard of Oz, it's Burton, not Raimi. Just leave Carter and Depp out, if he can.

Burton sh*ts on Raimi all day. Alice just needed a better plot and less CGi

Well gents.

I just walked out of Oz. surprisingly decent flick. Nowhere near as bland as the marketing made it look and it had a f*ck load more heart than Alice.

Raimi managed to inject passion into this film and it shows.... And this lack of passion was what marked Alice for me.

This won't blow anyone away but it did the job.
