Universal Pictures unveiled a new trailer for Tom Cruise's upcoming "Oblivion" film, which co-stars Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko and Melissa Leo. It's directed by Joseph Kosinski (Tron Legacy) and is set to hit theaters on April 12th. Check out the trailer below.
Plot: Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jack's mission is nearly complete.
Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.
Still don't know how I feel about this film. I love science fiction. Cruise's MINORITY REPORT is one of the best science fiction films of the last 15 years. But none of these trailers has sold me on this film.
The biggest problem I had with Kosinki's TRON LEGACY were the intimate scenes between the characters. They fell flat and were boring. He did not handle those scenes well. The FX and action scenes were all well-choreographed and looked amazing though. I'm sure this film will have great visuals as well. But unless he can have greater finesse with the exposition and "human" scenes in the film, this might be another mixed bag.

Olivia Wilde was a program, so her character couldn't emote for sh*t in the context of others, the lead guy was, is a terrible actor with much room for improvement ,and Bridges wasn't in it for much of the film, but in the scenes he had, he stole them.
I thought the acting was overall acceptable, except for the main guy who resembled a f*cking deer caught in headlights for pretty much in the entire run-time.
Here Kosinski has better talent with which to work, so I have faith.

I generally think all directors get better, more comfortable with each subsequent film. Not all are the wunderkinds like Spielberg or Scorsese right out of the box. I do hope it's good, because good science fiction films are few and far between these days.
Cruise just doesn't look like the right casting for this movie.sorry.

Garrett Hedlund was terrible. Jeff Bridges was great, but reminded me a little too much of LEBOWSKI with his performance. And the flashback at the end climax was so f*cking odd and out of place. There was no precedence for it to be there. We never saw this interaction between the father and son, and cramming it in at that moment was a cheesy and clumsy attempt to spark an emotional response in the audience. But it was a technically, visually awesome film. I saw it twice in 3D, and the second time was a lot harder to sit through.

Tron Legacy was a sh*tty film plain and simple. For the life of me I don't know why anyone defends it. The acting was terrible, the effects were underwhelming a way overhyped, and its PG brand muted everything from the action to the basic story. For a movie based in a game driven world their are surprisingly few decent action scenes. Take out the opening 15 min game sequences and there's no fun left in the entire 2hr + film. With all the money they spent and new 3D techniques they employed you would think they could have been a lot more creative with the action (like Avatar), but instead they gave us the most expensive snoozefest ever made.
As for Oblivion, it just looks better with every new trailer.

Tron Legacy was pretty f*cking great film. Great soundtrack, great effects, some gnarly old-school fighter pilot action plus the cinematography was mucho inspired. Wilde impressed with her doing more than she's ever done, Bridges still managed to hit it home for his age, Hedlund sucked but what are you going to do with him in general? The facial replacement FX was pretty sweet in most places, the palette was gorgeous, the SFX were spot on, and so on.
Some people are just inherently stupid. Bet if they had thrown in some tits, people getting decapitated and a bunch of explosions and guns going off, the virtual idiot above me would have liked Tron Legacy.

My apologies for that penultimate reply, but certain people annoy the hell out of me sometimes.
