Gary Oldman Joins "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" SequelSubmit Comment
It was recently revealed that Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In) have been cast in the upcoming "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" sequel, called "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes." And now comes word that Gary Oldman has joined the project as well.

The story is set 15 years after the events of the first film. It will focus on a group of human scientists who are struggling to survive alone in San Francisco, while Caesar (Andy Serkis) is attempting to maintain dominance over his kingdom.

Clarke is playing a militaristic type of leader of the surviving humans with Oldman playing a more intellectual and diplomatic type who is another leader. THR says that the roles may get reversed.

"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" is directed by Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Cloverfield) and is set to hit theaters on May 23rd, 2014.

Is Gary Oldman the white Samuel L. Jackson? Or is Samuel L. Jackson the black Gary Oldman?

Good call. Dude brings class and quality to everything he touches, and this Monkey Business sequel is going to need buckets of both.

Agree with Mink on this one, can't go wrong with Oldman in a film about monkeys.

Serkis and Oldman. Finally they cast good actors for both human and monkey. Nice !

@mink

So are you saying Sammy Jack brings quality and class to everything he is in?

Right on. Looking forward to this one.

Can't go wrong with Oldman, he's money. I'm instantly more interested in this.

Great stuff, i really enjoyed the most recent film. I went in not expecting much but it was a decent film. I agree with Mink and champ Oldman is a class act.

Yeah but this motherf*cker doesn't suck.

He sure doesn't suck, bro. But f*ck if he's everywhere.
minkowski writes:

True. I can see your point: by him appearing in everything it dilutes and cheapens his quality.

You'd think after one or two movies, getting paid ten to twenty million, most actors would buy a cheap house somewhere and live comfortably. Instead, they end up like Cage, taking any and all projects, no matter how sh*tty.

Have these f*ckers never heard of a savings account?

Oldman maybe in a lot of films, but quite a few a little more than extended cameos. Lawless, he's in that for all of 2 mins, have a look at his filmography, it's not as extensive as you might think (when you compare how old he is to other actors the same age and their film credits)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Oldman_filmography

But anyway, he is a great actor. I know he has said he has no interest in playing a villain in a film ever again. Why? Because he's played them all! Lol.

I think an Oldman/Jackson film would be awesome. A buddy cop film perhaps? Reverse the stereotypical roles of the actors, Jackson play it straight, Oldman for laughs. But hey, what do I know?
