Two years ago, it was reported that Columbia Pictures hired "Source Code" writer Ben Ripley to pen the script for a remake of "Flatliners," which is a 1990 Joel Schumacher film that stars Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Robert and Kevin Bacon.
Bloody-Disgusting has now learned that Niels Arden Oplev, the director of "Dead Man Down" and the original "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" film, is in talks to helm the remake.
In the original film, Sutherland plays ambitious, charismatic medical student Nelson, who persuades classmates to take part in a reckless experiment. To see if there is life after death, they will kill themselves: temporarily shut down ("flatline") their heart and brain functions to briefly experience clinical death. After Sutherland survives the first experiment, the others flatline for increasingly longer intervals.
Didn't really care for this movie but a good idea for a film, that being said it shouldn't be a remake but just should be taken in a different direction
Just curious. ..why is it referred to as 'Kevin Bacon's "Flatliners" in the headline? Is it because he has the most attention right now because of his new television show? He was hardly the box-office draw for that flick back in the day.

Will the horse be all CG like Life of Pi's tiger? I don't think they can get one to talk again because of PETA. She was excellent in Erin Brockovich. After Eat Pray Love though I think they shot her.
