"The Mummy" Reboot is a Top Priority, to Shoot Later This Year

The Mummy Reboot is a Top Priority, to Shoot Later This YearSubmit Comment
Jon Spaihts was the man who wrote the original "Prometheus" script, but then Damon Lindelof ("Lost") was brought in to re-write it. Lindelof constructed a completely different story, but kept some of the larger elements of Spaihts' script.

Now it looks like the same thing is happening to Spaihts. Several months ago he was hired to direct "The Mummy" reboot for Universal Pictures, which has Len Wiseman (Total Recall) on board to direct.

NY Mag has now learned that the studio is so eager to begin shooting this year that it hired a second writer, Billy Ray (The Hunger Games), to put together a completely different script.

The plan is to let the writers finish their versions and then combine the two scripts into one movie, similar to what was done with "Prometheus." Both scripts will be set in present days, and the film is targeted for a summer 2014 release.

"which has Len Wiseman (Total Recall) on board to direct."

If there was any hope for this movie... it's now gone like a fart in the wind.

I don't really see the comparison to Prometheus. Lindelhof is nowhere near this and that's the key issue with Prometheus' script.

Didn't MUMMY 3 have a older son who looked like, what, 5 years younger than his dad Fraser? And a wife that kinda wasn't Rachel Weisz? And a director whose high point was kicking off a franchise that has somehow unbeliveably nearing seven flicks (Fast/Furious)? Yeah, that incarnation of the MUMMY series needs to stay buried.

Cress attitude, apparently, is if you don't tell a stupid enough joke the first thirty times, try try try again.

Because we all know how well it always turns out. Foolproof.

@deaft - Good call. "Alex's Speed typing School" is blooming.

If Len Wiseman is directing this it will probably be nothing but sh*t..
Good call, Hollywood.

When you're told that "The Mummy" reboot is a top priority, it's a significant sign that the end of the world is near.
