Renny Harlin to Direct "Hercules 3D," Will Compete with Brett Ratner's Version

Renny Harlin to Direct "Hercules 3D," Will Compete with Brett RatnerSubmit Comment
It was recently announced that Paramount Pictures and MGM hired Dwayne Johnson and director Brett Ratner or a new "Hercules" movie, which will hit theaters on August 8th, 2014.

Now comes word that Millennium Films is planning to begin shooting its own $70 million "Hercules" movie in May in Bulgaria, and then have the film in theaters by March of 2014, just ahead of Ratner's version.

Millennium just hired Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger, Die Hard 2) to direct from a script by Sean Hood (Conan the Barbarian) and Hanna Weg. "It's not a comic book, cartoony fantasy thing," said Harlin. "It's closer to 'Gladiator' than flying horses."

""It's closer to 'Gladiator' than flying horses."

I sincerely doubt that Dwayne Johnson will evoke as much intensity & emotions as Russel Crowe did in Gladiator. Johnson can only fight, don't ask him to act for that matter.

Renny Harlin had his moments in the 90's let's just hope he hasn't lost his mojo since because Johnson will need it badly in this one.

From writer Sean Hood..the man who wrote the Crow film starring Edward Furlong..wrote the Halloween film starring Busta Rhymes..and the smash blockbuster hit Conan the Barbarian..

There is only one Hercules: Kevin Sorbo. Nuff said.

two sh*t directors potentially f*ck up what could be a great franchise of classic greek legends f*cking sad, just give us a God of War film directed by somebody with the skills to pay the bills please.

@McQueen: You do realize the Gladiator quote is from Millenium Films, not Paramount right? Dwayne Johnson is in the Brett Ratner version, not the Renny Harlin version.

I personally hope Renny Harlin's version does better, just to spite Brett Ratner for X3.
McQueen writes:

I stand corrected as I obviously mixed the two of them.

In that case it's going to be utter sh*te. Johnson will Never make anything better than Tooth Fairy! They might cast Justin Bieber as well then. Really pathetic.

This will be the bomb of the 2.

Millenium did it with "Olympus has fallen" and now this.

Words "tax evasion", "grey financial schemes" and "bulgarian jews" come to mind.

This sh*t will be shot on a $50 mil. budget max and most likely will flop. They have a year to produce it from scratch.

Yes mink it is, sh*t just got serious.

The Rock is a talented actor as well as action star. f*ck what that piss soaked fool says with his euro trash love.
Herbert Butterfield writes:

so, ENFORCER is JB. yay.

sh*t on Harlin all you want, fellas, and he mostly deserves it, but he did make at least one good film (okay, maybe JUST one): The Long Kiss Goodnight... although that probably had more to do with Shane Black writing it than Harlin's directing skills.

damn, geena davis was a real tomato back in the day. it was almost worth watching that awful "goofy hairy aliens" film just to see her in that teeny-weeny bikini.

anyway, speaking of Black, did anyone know that he actually acted in a few films? he was the nerdy bespectacled soldier in the first Predator film, for instance.

damn, it's a slow news day.
Herbert Butterfield writes:
on February 4th, 2013 at 7:57:16 PM

yeah, that's right, I used a 40s slang term to describe an 80s actress back when she was in her 20s but who is now in her 50s.

wrap your minds around THAT.
minkowski writes:

ENFORCER writes:

I needed to take some time out. So I went cold turkey for a few months, looked the other day and saw that piss soaked fool blabbering about his lies, so it was time for JB to return.

CelluloidMan writes:

The thing is...Harlin is a very hit or miss director. His percentage of good flicks is not really that good per se...but then again that would apply to many respected ones today (like W. Hill's BULLIT TO THE HEAD bomb).

But if we're counting misses, let's also take into consideration his successes such as as discussed THE LOBG KISS GOODNIGHT, DIE HARD 2, and CLIFFHANGER...can't say they're blockbusters, but are solid popcorn flicks nonetheless.

Having said that & to stay on topic, to see who would make a better Hercules movie between Ratner & Harlin is like watching one of the last World Cup match wanting to know who will get 3rd or 4th place...if you're curious go ahead, but what's the point?
