"Hansel and Gretel" Takes First Place at Box Office, "Movie 43" Bombs

Hansel and Gretel Takes First Place at Box Office, Movie 43 BombsSubmit Comment
"Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters," starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton, took first place at the domestic box office this weekend by grossing $19 million. Unfortunately, due to a major snow storm, the film ended up performing worse than expected. But since it cost only $50 to make and earned another $36 million overseas, the movie is already considered profitable. It has an 18% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes.

"Parker" thriller, starring Jason Statham and Jennifer Lopez, took fifth place, grossing only $7 million. The film's budget has not been disclosed, but it's fresh rating was also lousy, currently standing at 37%.

The other wide release of the weekend was the comedy "Movie 43," starring half of Hollywood, including Hugh Jackman, Halley Berry, Kate Winslet, Emma Stone, Gerard Butler, and Naomi Watts. The film had to settle for seventh place with only $5 million in weekend earnings. Somehow, producers managed to make it only for $6 million, which means that the movie will become profitable. It has a remarkably low fresh rating of 5%.

So.....I could hqve sworn that through the worstpreviews educational program on hollywood, that movies needed to make doubke the budget to be considered profitable....so how is making 55 million on a 50 million budget a profit already......ya......

Movie 43 was always going to fail as the whole concept behind it would puzzle the average cinemagoer who may have seen the 3 ads on tv that ive seen. There will be me in the front row to see halle berry get her jebs out but after that ill probably just jerk it in the bathroom and leave.

Jason Statham has the box-office clout of Michael Dudikoff.

January, cold and dark and remote like Siberia, is the gulag month for box office poison.

I doubt the snowstorm hurt "Gretel's" box office much. These reimaginings of classic stories or historical figures (I'm looking at you, Abe Lincoln: Twilight Lover) aren't flying with audiences. Just stop it. I don't want to see Confuscious: Transsexual Astronaut.

so no movie 44?

For those of you sick of life and looking for a strong motivation to commit suicide, and ritual disembowelment isn't your thing, read the Wikipedia for Movie 43.

If that isn't enough, watch New Year's Eve, aka Movie 43.

Movie 42.

I'm surprised it even made $19 mil. The film had been sitting a while due to a PG-13 vs R conflict.

^^According to my girlfriend Wikipedia:

"The film began shooting in March 2010 but due to having such a large cast, producer/director Peter Farrelly told Entertainment Weekly that "This movie was made over four years, and they just had to wait for a year or two years for different actors. They would shoot for a week, and shut down for several months. Same thing with the directors. It was the type of movie you could come back to."

Also, Richard Roeper called it "the Citizen Kane of awful", which is some strong wording from the Roger Ebert of awful.

Can Statham finally stop making movies now? He never impressed me as an action star ever!! My 57 yr old uncle can do his roles no problem.

Can your uncle take his shirt off every film just to put on display chiseled abs?

No.

Fact is, Jason Statham isn't much more than a white, British L.L. Cool J.
